This may get long but stay with me, please.
I have a model 73 semi-mount plow. Been here a few years, hadn't used it, decided to take it to the swap meet Friday. Didn't sell. I've gotten all the adjustments free and the tire holds air. Talking with Dave the Plow Man at Lathrop he cleared some things up for me. The 60 series (looking) coulters were available on the early 70 series plows. The bottoms are 375 non-shin units. Shares are unique to that bottom and not great. But, I think I have new ones. If so, they are going on. Might just as well, don't fit any of my other plows. So I'm getting more interested in this silly thing. Another option would be to convert it to slat bottoms. Have several around here loose and a parts plow. I rather like this angle. Having said all that; If you set the hydraulic pump to 'delayed-lift', for the tail wheel, will the traction booster still function?

Well, how about a 2 for 1?
My WFE 45 is getting a bit low on pressure, thinking 3100 psi or so when last I checked. Searching here and looking in my books I didn't find any information. Pretty sure we have discussed 'shimming' to adjust the pressure.
Any insight would be much appreciated. |

I don't have a tail wheel or gauge wheel on my 73 plow. I use the traction booster and it works great. Look at my website to see the video of me plowing with it.

I think it might, but you'd have to do some different plumbing. The left lift arm cylinder would have to be connected directly to the right lift arm cylinder, so they would work together. The hose that formerly went to the right lift arm cylinder would have to plug into the hyd tailwheel on the plow. Plumbed this way, the lift arms would come up first, then the tailwheel. Lowering, the arms would drop before the tailwheel. The Traction Booster screw "A" would have to be unscrewed. If you know the TBoost system works now, it would be worth a shot. What you are doing is what the Transport valve was for. Good luck, Mike !!

I was just about to say, when we pulled a 4-14 (model 74?) Semi mounted snap plow, the transport valve was necessary to make the traction booster work properly. Without that, it wouldn't have pulled 4 bottoms in our soil. Several years later, I have a 3 point 2 bottom plow now, the tractor struggles in the same soil type we pulled 4 bottoms through with ease back then. It is incredible how beneficial the traction booster system is to these tractors. That said, I do believe the tractor could be weighted down properly and gain the same traction. But weights are expensive in my neck of the woods and I don't have much of a use anymore for a 4 bottom plow. |
