Gleaner E Cleaning Shoe

   Hello All,I discovered something last night working on my Gleaner E combine. I have not had it in the field yet. The first time that I got the entire machine under power, it had a loud banging noise in it and you could feel the clean grain elevator tube moving when it happened. The bottom of the tube was damaged and the chain and sprockets were shot, so those got replaced with new and I patched the tube. Fast forward to last night, I fired it up again and the problem is still there, but this time I found the real culprit. In the cleaning shoe, beneath the lower sieve, there is a screen riveted in to the shoe which I hadn't noticed because it had a plain flat galvanized sheet over it. One side of the screen is broken away about halfway back, and it is hanging down and getting caught by the clean grain auger when the shoe moves forward. 
I've looked through the operator's manual and I can't find any information about that screen or the smooth plate that was over it, or when to use one or the other. I'm guessing that the screen is for removing fines/weed seeds from the clean grain to drop them into the tailings and then try to get them out through the perforated cleanout cover on the tailings elevator? Would the smooth plate have been used for wheat or small grains? The parts manual shows the screen in the shoe, but that's the only official mention of it that I have found. Thanks,

	You seem to have it figured out. That tin blank is referred to as the "cookie sheet" and yes in for wheat and out to remove FM from sample. Any small seed would need the sheet installed. Edited by SteveM C/IL - 5 hours 43 minutes ago at 8:15am

	Thank you, that's good to know! I hadn't even realized there was a screen there until last night, it kind of threw me for a loop. The screen is broken in the first set of holes along the left side, I think I can drill through what's left out by the edge of the shoe and then clamp a piece underneath it and plug weld it in. At least that's the current plan, subject to change without notice.
