Hello everyone I’m new here, I just recently picked up an Allis Chalmers HD6G early type with the 4 cylinder engine. I bought it unknown, got it to run but I have no oil pressure. I hooked up a manual gauge to bypass the original one and still nothing. Should I start at the oil pump? I have a parts book and it shows an oil pressure regulator on the side of the engine would that have anything to do with it? Does anyone have any advice on where to start with this?
I purchased the machine from a guy who ran it until it lost oil pressure. He didn't want to dig in to what it could be so I bought it unknown and non running. I had it trailered to my property and rolled off the trailer in to the spot where it sits now. I got it to start and run but didn't want to run it for long being that it showed zero oil pressure. I unscrewed off the oil gauge and engine oil does flow out of the tube but possibly very weak. When running it does have a pretty good amount of white smoke as well. I just verified engine oil was full but have not changed it yet. I also took a look at the oil filter and there is some small amount of metal looks like glitter on the side of the metal filter. Is that normal? Doesn't look like the oil or filter have been changed for a while!
Should I start by dropping the oil pan or at-least the access panel to view the oil pump? Do the oil pumps on these fail and is there a place to buy a new one? Here is a picture of the engine it's the 344 buda. Pictures attached. Thanks
