Was working on the D17 project tonight and ran into a snag. Bolting the oil pump up and must have gotten one side ahead of the other and the flange with the bolt hole has a hair line crack. What to do now? Jb weld it and run it or find a different pump? And maybe that crack was there before and did not know it. I'm ashamed to admit this tractor has been apart longer than we had hoped when we tore it down and just getting back to working on it.

If another not handy i would V it and braze it. Remove anything heat sensitive first.

I broke one of those 40 years ago. Kind of a poor design because the least bit of over torque on the bolts and the ear just snaps off OR cracks the ear for the next poor guy that works on it years later. Go easy on the bolt tightening and loctite the threads so the bolts cannot loosen up.

Would you put any jb weld type epoxy on it just to help or leave it be? Ya when my brother slid that pump up he’s like it doesn’t go all the way. Then I read in the manual it doesn’t. Weird design for sure. |

If I was going to try and save it, brazing would be the best I think.

Even says in the service manual "flange will not seat tight against the block". It was an issue on these old Buda engines. To answer your question, Id braze it as well
