My father just passed and always told me this tractor was "special". can someone help me decode the darn serial number and motor number? The stamped serial number by the shifter is B25058 if I am reading it correctly. The bottom of the 0 is missing but I am pretty sure it is a 0. I also have a picture of the engine id plate with the info on it . Thanks in advance for all your assistance everyone!

Serial B25058 would make it a 1939, the third year of B production. G |

That should be an Allis model "B" tractor. They were all ORANGE, not green... The 1939 might have different front wheel rlms that the later tractors... Probably no battery or generator or starter motor... Not sure of hand brakes or foot brakes.. Should look something like this..

Was orange originally. Someone painted it green in the last 70 years. Nothing really special about it.

At least is appears to be more towards ‘Oliver green’ than ‘John Deere green’.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

60 years ago a neighbor had an Allis Model B that was green, it was a hand start with hand brakes. I dunno what became of it or why some one painted it green. I have a yellow model C but there is orange paint underneath.

Welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear of the passing of your father. And that tractor is definitely special to you…….it belonged to your father. Someone must have had some extra paint and decided that it needed fresh paint. At least it wasn’t JD green with yellow wheels. That is a neat little tractor and one of the earlier model B’s.

Is it possible the military may have bought it and painted it green?

During the war years there were some grey painted B's sold in Canada. Apparently the government had some program, intended help somehow, for farming. My Dad bought a used one like that, a 1944 model. This was the account told to my Dad by the old-timer that owned it at the time.

Agreed, it's been painted. Possibly a sign of a loved tractor and they wanted to keep the rust off, and that's just the paint they had around? If so it's "special" in that sense, and if it was special to your father and to your memory of him then nothing wrong with keeping it that way IMHO Can see a bit of original orange peeking out on the air cleaner.

When the war was OVER, there were a zillion gallons of " battle ship grey" paint left over in the US.... Thats why most machinery ( lathe, drill press, welders, motors, etc ) were painted GREY for the next 30 years !!
