I had a C-10 CST package, with optional power disc brakes. It really was nice. Little brother wrecked a 70 Nova with a 250ci six I'd rebuilt so installed that replacing the original, but tired 350. I drove that truck a couple of years repainting it the two tone Astro Blue, and Arctic White color scheme. I liked the wood grain trim accents as was different from others.

The guy sitting in the truck is the original and only owner of the truck; he bought it brand-new.
The truck, as you have probably already noticed, is column-shifted 3-speed.
Chevrolet put the column-shift in trucks at least until 1980, even in the 4WD trucks.
In the late 1970s, a friend purposefully bought/resold numerous column-shifted 4WD trucks.
Why on earth would anyone in his right mind purposefully order a column-shifted 4WD when it was just as easy to get a 4-speed ?
In those years, a manual truck came with the bullet-proof NP205 and locking hubs; automatics were only available with the problematic chain-drive NP203 and full-time hubs.
This guy was taking brand-new trucks with less than 100-miles on them and replacing the 3-speed manual and column with Turbo-400 automatics and columns removed from big GM cars, station wagons, and the like.
s wanting automatics, but not wanting the NP203, were lined up on his waiting list.

I had several trucks with the NP203 transfer case. Heavy thing but not hard to work with once a support was welded to hold it proper on a jack. Near everything domestic had that in the mid 70's. You knew it was time for a chain when they started skipping violently over the drive hubs/sprockets. Full time 4X4 was nice but $$$ in fuel consumption.
Don't know why a guy would change the whole column as the lower mast jacket was all that was needed to rid of the column shifter assembly. If going to an automatic the spacer than contained the shift position indicator had to be installed. That wasn't too difficult to change and did many myself along with the shifter tubes, and bearings that ran in the column.
Those were, and still are some popular trucks.

1974 Chevy K10 full time 4x4, 350 4spd. my first NEW truck. I still remember writing the check $4089.oo tax & tags included and yes it loved gas. Sold it 6 years later for $3500. The new 1980 K10 had lock out hubs and a 250 6cyl with a 4 spd. That one was around $7400. Much better on gas, but my Dad named it Breathless! Kept that one till 1993, it was a way better truck. Only 3 on tree I had was my 1970 Chevelle convertible...Harvey

Dad was always a Ford guy. I remember when I was a kid we took a ride to the Ford dealer. Dad wanted to trade in is 56 F1 in and get a new 63 F100. The Ford dealer wanted $2000. bucks for the truck. He haggled with the dealer over that new pickup he wanted. The dealer didn't budge, so Dad and I started heading home. All of sudden, we were going in another direction. Wound up at the Chevy dealer. Dad being a die hard Ford guy at a Chevy dealer? I was in shock to say the least. We walked into the Chevy dealer and Dad said "do ya have a pickup with six cylinder and standard shift?" "I don't want any of that air condition stuff" "Just a basic truck" The sales guy walked us around to the side lot and there sat a new 63' C10. Turquoise Blue with a White roof. 235 six, three on the tree. Dad bought that truck for $1800. and drove it off the lot. Now, I was really in shock! He had that truck for 11 years. He traded that in on a 74' F100 that had one of those fiberglass caps on the bed. Boy, he thought that was the Cat's meow. He could put his huntin' and fishin' gear in the bed and it wouldn't get wet! He was back to his Fords.... LOL!

Ex-Military 3/4-ton Dodge 4x4 W-250 - probably a 1978 as most were.
Evidenced by the Pintle Hitch, the Military trailer pigtail receptacle, thick over-load springs on a SRW truck, and the black-out tail-lights.

You can just make out the big I-H on each corner with "Sales and Service" between.
The owner of this truck lives in Barren County, Kentucky, near Glasgow; he drives it to and from shows.
He is holding up five and one to remind me that this is a 1951 model.
I photographed this same truck right here in 2010 or earlier with a disposable pasteboard film camera.
Check out the custom mirror bracket made from a section of trace chain.
Note the running board treads made from old open-end wrenches; if you have a sharp eye, you will see a pair of pliers as well; also, note the running board skirt made from sections of "TEE"-posts and barbed wire.
The big green tank, salvaged from a combine, is the fuel tank.
A sharp eye will see the 4-way wheel wrench sandwiched between the bed-side and the .50-caliber ammunition can.
That old water cooler has been a welcome sight for many a parched tobacco hand.
Those fencing pliers look like they could benefit from being dropped in a bucket of used oil for a few weeks.
That marine tank appears to actually be plumbed in to something; maybe an auxiliary gas tank.
That big wrench could serve as a formidable weapon so long as you get ahold of it before your adversary does.
The rear bumper is a steel fence post; do you see the spur hanging from it ?
