Bib Overhalls

Saturday_19-April-2025

- --- -

A sharp eye will already have noticed that he is wearing next-to-impossible-to-find Pointer Brand overalls; if you are a born and bred Kentuckian, they are "bib overhalls"

I included this last shot as it shows the back view of his overalls; notice that they are the now-rare "no back" style, as opposed to the ever more common high back style.

Just out of curiosity, I searched Amazon thoroughly and could not come up with a single pair of Pointer Brand in any style; and, it ain't easy to find any brand that isn't high-backed.

I often wear overalls myself. It'll be too hot for them pretty soon. Backless style should be some cooler?

Around our area, Oshkosh B’Gosh was the brand.
I have been threatening the Wifey, that I am gonna start wearing bib overalls, as I can’t seem to walk 20 paces without hiking up my jeans if I have anything in the pockets.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

For years, the neighboring counties on both sides of our county had big Osh Kosh sewing factories; countless women worked at them.

At least around here, anything Osh Kosh was sort of greyish with light blue pin-stripes.

They were also big on "railroad" overalls, coveralls, and jackets, plus railroad caps.

Alas, our Osh Kosh factories have been shuttered for years.

Two counties over, there were two big CarrHart factories, also employing a horde of women.

They even had a big CarrHart factory outlet store where you could buy "seconds" as well as first line stuff.

Both CarrHart factories have been gone now nigh on to thirty years.

Two HUGE Union Underwear/Fruit-of-the-Loom factories gone now over twenty years.

Russell Sportswear = gone.

Suttons Shirt Factory = gone.

Palm Beach = gone.

Red Wing Shoe factory = long gone.

Pointer low backs, it's been a long time since I've seen those.  I don't think they've had low backs for years. Lowbacks is what we called them. Liberty brand and carhartts is all I see anymore. They used to have carpenter style with attached nail apron, hickory stripes, white painter style, times change.
 I visited the world dairy expo in wisconsin 25 or so years ago and it seemed everyone wore osh Kosh brand.

My Dad always wore Pointer or Liberty low back. Got a fellow church member that wears them to church most of the time along with a dress shirt and sport jacket. I may try a pair since I seem to have the same problem as Lars.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

Over alll's, dress shirt, and sport jacket! LOL, that's quite a fashion statement! I like that guy already. It's what's in the heart that counts
I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27

When they had the visitation for my uncle one his buddies came in overalls. They did look new. Never knew his name. Always went by Rooster. Works for me.

I've seen more than a few buried in their overalls.

There are plenty around here that the only pants hanging in their closets are overalls.

I don't own/wear any overalls, but I don't own a suit either.
