I recently purchased a D17 series IV diesel with factory three point.  My dream tractor.  The seller claimed it ran great.  Not true.  The engine is worn out.  (The tractor was a 14 hour drive from me.  I based my purchase decision on pictures, videos and seller information.  I will not do that again.)

I can get a series I diesel that runs well.  Other than swapping the necessary components, will I encounter any issues putting a series I engine in a series IV tractor?  I assume not since both are a 262.

The tractor will not get a lot of use.  Rebuilding is an option.  Swapping will be cheaper and faster.

Many of us can understand your frustration. It’s a sick feeling when you spend good honest money on a tractor that is misrepresented. I bought a WD45 back around 2001 or so, which had been repainted and was touted as “needing absolutely nothing, ready to go to work”. First time I used it, the pto came loose and lost all the transmission oil, and shortly afterwards, coolant in the oil pan uncovered the fact that the block was cracked in between the cylinder sleeves. That old guy really got one over on me. Hopefully you didn’t get in too deep at this point and still have interest in the Series IV. If you decide to overhaul it, I may have some parts you’d be interested in. Good luck with your project!!
