Im looking at a 545 thats priced right local to me. The biggest issue it has is it has a leak in the transmission, bad enough that the current owner says it fills the bellhousing instantly upon starting. Does anyone more familiar with this trans know of a seal that would cause that, and the availability of finding one?
Thanks

I have never worked on one of those transmissions but I anticipate the design to be much like other set-ups with converters having a seal where it goes into the transmission. A new seal would not be difficult to locate. The labor, however, to fix a leak to do with the converter is simply very intensive in the terms of time as you have to either pull the engine or the transmission to address the leak. Someone on this forum that may have worked on such issues, may well give you more detail. The 545 is a great machine, I have had the FR12 which is identical, just a few years newer.

It's an Allison trans. I bought a service manual for my 545B trans. It's more than a little intimidating. Mine has a bearing missing It's spacer on the top shaft that drives the charge pump and hyd pump. It may not be so cheap in the end.....
