Going for a 17 mile drive to the local Pizza Ranch and then 17 miles back by another route. Son and grandsons are going as we will take the 175 XTD, the One-Seventy gas high deck, nephews D-15 II and the WD-45. Weather is to be perfect !! I tend to get my $$$$;s worth at Pizza Ranch and may need a nap half-way back home.

That is fantastic! What a great family memory and I really like hearing about the engine change. I wish I had your talents! God bless you Tom and family, Pastor Mike Townsley |

I saw the picture on Facebook. You did a great job fitting the 433 in the 175 chassis. I love the work you do - it does not look hacked together! You take pride in your work.

If you run the WD-45 and the One-Seventy side-by-side down the road the WD-45 is just a tick faster with 14.9 x 28 rear tires. The One-Seventy has 15.5 x 38's and both engines are screaming at 2200 RPM. Actual speed is 17.0 to 17.3 MPH. The 175 is the slowest because it has 16.9 x 28 tires and 175's are equipped with 180/185 final drives for strength, but are 10% slower geared. I'd say it runs 16.5 MPH at 2500 RPM's as a guess.

Dr. what have you done to the WD45 engine to safely run 2200? I think you have said swap governor spring to make rpm. I don't remember stock rpm.
Any other considerations for bearing clearances or oil pressure ? What about a running straight WD at this rpm? |

This high speed isn't to be used in the field !! It is only when I need extra ground speed to keep up with Farmall "M"s on a tractor ride. When I built the engine, I had the rotating assembly balanced. I also had a small groove ground into the very center of each main bearing journal to see to it the rod bearings would be getting oil 100% of the time instead of 1/3 of each revolution of the crankshaft. A D-17 governor spring is all it took to get the extra speed from 1,700 RPM to over 2,000 RPM. A WD is not much different when it comes to the oiling system. I'd sure like it to have good oil pressure on the gauge before doing something like that. I know someone (an old deceased customer) who told me he used a D-17 governor spring on his WD with M&W pistons (60+ yrs ago) and the engine lasted one spring plowing season. The failure you ask ?? a rod bearing, from the lack of oiling that the 1/3 crank rotation gave to the rod bearings at 2000 RPM under a load.

Thanks Dr. Yes, tractor ride speed is what I was thinking. I didn't think about how crank bearing hole is only pressurized 1/3 of rotation.
Our old dealer said the WD engine would last with minimal pressure is you weren't plowing. Several of our machines run at N, but mostly parade duty. Any value to the old rule of thumb of 10 psi per 1000 rpm? Where would that be on the gauge? |

The old rule of thumb might be OK for some engines but not for these.

You've tried an AGCO dealership 70229519 is the p/n??? I'd say the top one might be to a D-17.

The D15 s2 is currently on 16.9x26 and I have clocked it at 20mph.......when I had 18.4x26 I hit 22. both according to cell phone gps speedometers.

Yesterday got in 48 miles on a local tractor ride. Had 34 total participants. We took my WD-45, One-Seventy high deck and the 175XTD. Thanks to Kenny L. and my son Matt for a nice ride.

I’m shocked over a 48 mile ride! I delivered at 175 this summer on a Sunday in the rain 10 miles which took me about 45 minutes I think and I was beat! But I don’t think I had it fire walled. But definitely a rough ride! Those culvert crossings can really rattle the front weights and ones teeth and spine! No way I could keep up with you road warriers😁!

Dr. it was my pleasure to be able to run the 175XTD and what great running tractor and just love cracking the throttle and seeing the smoke roll (sometime I'm like a little kid). As with any of your project you done a FANTASTIC job on the old girl.
