Anyone know where I can get a proper locking stud that holds the starter in on a CA? The one with the tapered or pointed end. The 2nd CA I just bought just has a regular bolt in it.
Starter failed in it, so have to replace it and want to put a proper bolt back in. Also looking for a hand clutch handle if anyone has both they want to sell.

I turned down a bolt for a neighbors tractor to make the taper on it ---- still working after 5 years for him.

The bolt had a screwdriver slot. Hard to get them to tighten up. Then folks noticed WC, and WDs had lots of these special Allis bolts with the hex head and used them. They are a special taper. I have a bin full of them.

hmm... maybe take it from your 1st CA ???? ![]() OK, I ground a point on a regular bolt for one of my D-14s 10-12 years ago. It was fine. I think the 'trick' is to make the taper(pointy portion) a smaller taper than where it goes in. |

Going to get Steve at B&B to rebuild my starter as soon as I get it shipped to him and he may have a bolt, but if not I'll buy one off you Lon if you want to sell one?
Last resort will be to get my local machine shop to make me a couple. Or just buy a hand crank for CA #2, LOL

That bolt also uses a lock nut.

Yes, both of mine have a locknut on them. Just the recent purchased CA has a regular bolt.

Jeeze, I'll have to look at my CA's and see what they have for starter retention. So far I've never had a starter problem with a 125. Have plenty of the WD style bolts around, somewhere. |
