We had 500 that looked like that. Looks like the tilt cylinders are on the bottom like a 500

Been a long time but I'm thinking it's a 400 series. If memory serves the 500 had the hydraulic reservoir built into the uprights, the 400 didn't

Boss Man Actually it is the other way around. The 400 Series Example 445, 414, 415, 417, have the hyd. oil in the L/H upright and the Tilt and Lift Control Levers mounted on the left side. G |

Someone recently had scanned a page from the loader price book that showed all the different models and versions. I submit that there was a 500 series with a tank in the left tower, a front pump and a control valve. This loader would have fit older D-17's and all D-19's with a change to the rear axle brackets.

It was on a 175 and they used tractor hydraulics and control valves. |

Dr. You are right. The Allis Parts Catalog D47 does list A Model 517 and 519 along with the 400 Series 414, 415, and 417 with the Frame Hydraulic Oil Reservoir. G |

Our D-17 has the loader setup Dr Allis listed. We had it put on by our local Allis Chalmers dealer, around 1970. We still use the tractor and loader daily. Never had any problems with the frame cracking. Replaced the pump, control valves and rebuilt the cylinders.

The easiest way to absolutely determine a 400 series over a 500 series, is the cross bar that goes over the top of the hood that connects the vertical towers together. On a D-17, you must remove the cross bar to remove either engine hood. The cross bar is very close to the hoods. On a 500 series the cross bar is raised up probably 3 inches more (taller towers) allowing you to remove hoods without unbolting the cross bar.
