    Posted: 23 May 2024 at 4:43pm
Hello. My son has a 7040. We replaced all the cables, H/L, park and range (1-6). And put all new ends on each cable. We are having a hard time with adjustment. We have a service manual, but I am not seeing anything about adjustment for the range or HL cables. Or park for that matter. Located Upstate NY. It's my kids first tractor with money out of pocket. He is hoping this solves the issues. Thanks for the input.

The BIG cable needs to be adjusted so the lever in the cab is centered exactly when in neutral. Do this first. The small (side shift) cable gets adjusted so it will pull the stubby shifter under the floor sideways just enough to make Park work.

OK. Neutral adjustment first. Then park. Question is how? Just keep spinning that nut till it lines up ?
And second what about range. That seems to be my next biggest hang up.

The length of the BIG cable (fore and aft cable) is adjusted by how far you thread the ball joints on each end of the cable. Adjust cable length until you have the lever in the cab centered in the neutral position. The length of the SMALL cable (side shift cable) is also adjusted by threading the ends on farther or not as far on. The POWER SHIFT cable (not "range") again must be centered when in neutral by making the cable longer or shorter. Be sure this cable is the correct length when shifting into 4th speed (from both ways) as that is even more important than neutral on Power Shift tractors.
