I saw in here somewhere that said you could use hydraulic oil everywhere but the crankcase?
My manual said SEA 50 above 32 degrees SAE 30 below 32 degrees. CAN I run hydraulic oil in my trans and final drive? SAE 50 is 200 dollars for 5 gal. Will need 11 gals according to my manual. 5 in trans 6 in each drive. What are your thoughts? |

I will not give a recommendation because i dont know.. But "MOST" hydraulic oils are in the 10 - 20 - 30 viscosity range..
50w engine oil is comparible VISCOSITY WISE to 80-90 gear lube or ISO 150 - 220 industrial gear lube... Edited by steve(ill) - 29 Mar 2024 at 2:57pm |

Thank you for all of your replies.
I will stay with SAE 50. I didnt think it was a good idea, and couldn't find the post I saw. While the hydraulic oil would be convenient, it would just not be best for this application. Thank you all! Edited by Detrot1 - 30 Mar 2024 at 6:33pm |

This product works well in Roadranger transmissions both older, and newer.

I used Mobile DTE - Extra Heavy grade in transmission as it also lubes the ring and pinion area . It is 1100 Sabol Second Universal grade (pour rate) which is 50 weight or slightly heavier
In finals a heavier oil like the 90 or 120 weight gear oil Edited by Coke-in-MN - 30 Mar 2024 at 8:14pm |

If the oil in the final drives is to heavy it won't get through to the outer bearings. I think it's easier to use that right grade than replace final drive bearings later.

the outboard bearing on axle is a link belt roller bearing which is suppose to be lubed by rifle drilling in axle - seen a lot of machines where that housing is drilled to install a grease zerk in casting , drilling where the flat raised area is . Then using gun grease to lube it
