When did the rear hydraulic couplers start being attached to the hanger plate like the 7000s ?

The hyd couplers were always on the backplate area, but the "breakaway" couplers extended them rearwards about 6 inches from the backplate on a spring. The breakaway style were available from the beginning of the Crop Hustler 175/185's and usually always included two hydraulic cylinder hangers to carry your cylinder on the tractor. Over the years it seems like they were sometimes standard equipment and sometimes optional equipment. Just depended on what the Sales people thought was best at the time. If the tractor had cylinder hangers, it had to have been standard from the factory, because who would ever pay to add those things on ???

Doc, I really hate to disagree with you, but Dad's (1968 I believe) 180, that he bought new, had the breakaway couplers and hose hangers (that were very handy for hanging drawbar pins from). I remember the dealer saying that the breakaway couplers were an option.

Not in 1968. Later on, yes. And many have been added by dealers and customers.

The tractor was bought new. Our local dealer got 28 new tractors in that were shipped by rail. There were several (6 or 7) and they all came in with breakaway couplers and hose hangers. I am not sure of the year, but they were all new 180's that came with the breakaway couplers. I know where the tractor is. I might be able to see the serial number and pictures of the couplers and hangers. The newest the tractor could be would be 1970.

There was an earlier style break away coupler in those early years, but it wasn't anything like the newer ones we're talking about.

Breakaway couplers were optional. My 1977 175 has them but my 1976 185 does not.
