Can anyone say whether this “deluxe”seat frame is a factory part from a later model tractor, or is it a custom job? I’ve never seen one like it. It’s currently on a 1957 D17…

My 0.02 $ CDN worth ....................The seat frame does not look to be similar to any of the D Series seats I have ever seen, although it looks very well designed, and constructed. Some TLC, paint, and new cushion would probably look and feel !!!! great The seat support could use some new bushings etc and the sponsors/suppliers of this site are excellent with parts you might require A replacement OEM Allis Chalmers D Series seat is available from this website sponsors/suppliers, and would fit right into your seat frame For you interest, if you want to explore possibilities of Allis Chalmers seats other than the OEM D Series seats, here is a link to a discussion thread from this Forum. It might show you some of these possibilities that other members were looking at Good luck with your project

Thanks, Leadoff. I think it would be a nice comfortable seat if it was fixed back up. I have a really nice D17 pan seat assembly that i could put on instead… but this one has potential. It has been moved back farther than the original seat mounting holes allow, makes me think its for a later model machine. The suspension looks identical to original pan seat suspension.

The suspension always was the same. Pan seat was standard equipment from 1957 til the end of the series 4. OPTIONAL "deluxe" cushion seat was an option on the series 3 and series 4 for sure and maybe during the late series 2 about 1961 ?? Your seat frame is some after-market or homemade unit mounted on the OEM seat suspension.

I remember one of grandpas D17s having a square seat like that. Yours looks like I remember with the side bars. Maybe it was some type of afternarket seat?
