Its been 30 years since I worked on one of those but it seems like those pins were tapered and only came out one way

I meant its tapered thru the whole bore
If it is a tapered pin it will be smaller on one end than the other Kind of hard to tell sometimes if it got bradded when it was driven in |

Gleaner Black Cornhead Parts book form 9004918, March 1977 lingo as follows:
POINT(cast cone shaped spiral?) EXTENSION (cast transition behind needle bearing housing placed before blade set). Try heating snapping roll point’s (spiral cone?)pin(groove 5/16”-2 1/8”)to cherry red then hammer/punch out? The last one I successfully hammered pin out without any heat, I used a stout 1/4" punch to move pin back & forth while applying penetrating oil onto/into pin & hole. That took time. Even had a helper manually wrench cornhead roll 180 degrees by using an open end wrench on hex drive shaft, as I stood between row frames. Important note: If removing both rolls entirely per row, keep points/extensions properly matched. LEFT POINT is long & is matched to a short extension. RIGHT POINT is short & is matched to a long extension. Needle bearing part # 560985 Needle seals(2), 560254 Edited by AC7060IL - 02 Oct 2023 at 7:54am |
