At least you have green. Everything around here has dried up, brown everywhere.

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I would typically get 30 some 6x6 round bales on old pasture that's not treated. Plus this year have another unused pasture. Finished with 12 for the year. Gilad I let the cows go last year. Would be a very trying winter

Nothing to do with hay but cousin who I drive for during harvest is going to start on two small test patches to check moisture content this week.

Benny, looks like a 1959 Black bar D14? I wish I could find dad’s D14, 1958. No PS though

40# bales...why so light?
Our bales are much heavier. 60#-80#. Sometimes heavier. Using a D-17 and a J.I. Case 140w wire tie baler. Baled a bunch of bermuda and some prairie hay.

37-40 lb bales is what we make as well. A lot of our hay customers are women and a bale needs to be in that range for them to be able to handle. I also don’t want to be lugging around a 60-80 lb bale. Our horse customers will weigh several bales in a different part of the barn to make sure they are consistent.

325 small squares off of 8 acres of hay this year. 3 cuttings and left most of second crop on the field because the hay was so short the rake couldn’t pick it up. Rye turned out to be the best years ever, not sure how that happened. Just over 8” of rain since planting time this spring.

"... Wire Tie". Those will naturally be heavier. String tie run lighter. We used to be around 50lbs. Good call matching bale weights to your buyers. Evil supermarket techniques these days involve shrinkflation ... Farmers could start selling 30lb bales for the same price as 50lbs would be "on-trend". .

We bale them like they want them. That’s the first question I asked them in the beginning. We have 2 customers that buy our hay to supply them year round. Made life easy for the past 5 or 6 years. If we have surplus then that goes up for sale before the 1st cutting.
