even after plowing for 2 hrs I can still stick my finger in the radator its only luke warm i have my front louvers closed i cant even say if theres a thermastat in it im alittle concerned about putting a new cap on radator the pressure could cause me alot of trouble being 1947 I dont know if the radator would even take it with out starting to leak it runs ok I would just like to see it get warmer i know it would run better. the tractor is a solid unit im just dont know what do you all think

I don't have a B but...Sounds like you've got a GREAT rad,water pump, and a clean engine inside and maybe,just maybe a stuck open thermostat.If the stat was stuck closed, you'ld smell a hot engine. The engine will run better with a proper working stat as the block will be up to 160* + or -.
I did have a '67 mustang,6 cyl, 3 speed(fun car to drive) that blew the fan belt one day in hot,hot summer.NEVER overheated so we left off the fan blade when we replaced the belt.Never overheated for aver 4 years later,got slighlty warmer in winter though which was a bonus!
One 'school' says if it ain't broke don't fix it....so unless you're losing fluid,maybe wait until summer to fix it ?

My '41 B would never warm up. It has no thermostat and does not have shutters. Even when I used it in the woods to skid out logs, I put cardboard over the radiator. That would warm her up. Bob@allisdowneast

My CA was like that till I decided to replace the thermostat. I got tied of messing with the shutters every time the weather changed. If the outside temp was 55 or so, you would have to close the shutters almost all the way to get it in the green.

same on my B, i use a rubber floor mat to warm it up. On plow days at about 50/60 degrees it rarely gets over 140

I wouldn't worry about the cap as long as it's not getting hot and boiling over. Here is a B with the original temperature control system. You just raise or lower the canvas as needed. This one even shows the white tag on the corner.

B's always run cold. I have 2 and have had 3 and they have never had them run warm even after working them for a few hours. Nothing to worry about.

I have a 42 C that we farmed with for yers. It always run cold or on the cold side. Almost never used the shutters. I wouldn't worry about the tempature, except it would be nice to heat them up once in a while to eliminate any moisture in the oil. Radfiator is nor a pressure radaiater until the later Bs. If the cap is a cap that has the extension for your thumb, it is a non pressure radiator. Do not put a pressure cap on it.

As said above the B-C is a cold running tractor. Under normal tractor usage they hardly ever got into the green on the temp guage. In fact the only one I ever remember running hot was a local golf club tractor. The radiator had a leak and when it started getting hot they would add water from the local stream. Well, there is mud in the local stream and it got in and clogged the block. We had to pull the engine and sleeves so we could flush the block. Of course we had the radiator fixed.
Don't worry about the B running cold. The almost all did.

thanks gentle man and i use that term loosely I will just run it the main reason if its not broke dont fix it im sure you will be hearing from me theres to much info here.kinda like one stop shopping.orange fore ever.is there any where i could find a small die cast of a 47 B i have found wd a few others but no Bs

diecast model B's are less prevalent, and when they come up, the price reflects that.
