Anybody following……..

Saw it happen first hand in the 80s, IML, Garrett Motor Freight, PIE, ALL gone, dozens more like them.  As well most large freighters had Special Commodities Divisions for Owner Operators left hundreds stranded at every fail.

Reading the part of problems it seems to point at Union as they say they need around $17 more a hour to be in line with needs , Since UPS pulled out of Teamsters and set up their own health and welfare under their own Teamsters local the big money the union use to get disappeared . 
 This full idea that every job needs to rise in pay keeps coming up , then the everyone pay their fair share in taxes to government , well all of us retired individuals don't seem to be on anyone's list of our income isn't going up . 
 Use to buy a korned beef hash at walmart and was $1.74 a can - now is $2.68 , so cheap breakfast is almost more than one can afford when one added 2 eggs on top . 
  Couple of the Trucking mags I get have been having articles on Yellow and of how they had 3 phases of integration for the company but only Phase 1 on west coast was completed and Union blocked the next 2 unless Yellow contributed large sums to pension fund . 
 Kind of look at it as if Union knows so much about running a company - they should buy it and show the industry how it's done . Threatening a strike should end the problems when the company folds completely - Union Bosses will get their money , company files bankruptcy and stock holder lose , suppliers lose , and drivers are unemployed . 
  Teamsters Union has a bad past in managing funds and it seems now the same problems are back , GREED    

Although I am no union sympathizer by any stretch, the Teamsters for the past decade at least have given back a lot. YRC and been contributing only 25% of their obligations into their multi-employer pension fund. Workers had taken a 15% pay cut years ago. Now within the past several weeks, YRC announced suspension of money into the H&W program, then expected drivers to continue to work with no health insurance coverage.
It is sad situation, that should surprise nobody, it’s been on the horizon for a decade at least.

I'm betting the shortage of drivers hurt them too. A friend of mine owns a trucking company. They had over 100 trucks a few years ago, but had to cut back because they couldn't hire enough drivers. When you have thousands of trucks, the problem is many times worse.
