AC D-12 III key-starter

   Excellent starting D-12 III ......  at random the switch refused to engage the starter; Nothing!  Pulled it with the switch on, fired immediately. Started normally five or six times.......same thing.  Is the switch bad even though it runs well?  Why starter failure?

	the switch sends a low current 12v signal to the SOLENOID that has a magnet that pulls in BIG CONTACTS and those are connected to the BATTERY- STARTER cable.... When you turn the key, you should hear a CLICK as the solenoid pulls in..... Follow the BATTERY cable to a small round box that has two BIG terminals and 1-2 SMALL terminals... the small terminal comes from your ignition switch.. It should have 12 volts when you turn the key to START............. ONE of the big terminals is the bATTERY...the other is the STARTER... they connect when the solenoid engages.. this may not be exactly right... but look at the KEY wire that goes to the SOLENOID.. and the BATTERY and STARTER wires on the Solenoid... 	the solenoid could be mounted on the starter, or it could be remote mounted..... NOTE that one of the BIG terminals is connected to the battery...... Take a 6 inch long jumper wire and touch that BIG terminal to the SMALL terminal from the switch.. If you hear it click and the motor cranks over... then your not getting power from the switch...... If you see the spark, and hear no CLICK and no motor turn over.. then it probably is the solenoid..... you need 12 volts to the "S" terminal to get the solenoid to work.
