Brought home two new projects from auction on Saturday. A 1949 B and 1944 C, to go along with my 1951 CA. Both the B and C are non-runners - wish me luck.

Dale, I grew up in Edenton and still have the B that came with the place there that Dad bought in 1960. Mine isn't running now, hope to get it going soon.

Got the Allis C running today with pull start after sorting out minor electrical connection issues. Gears, clutch and brakes seem okay. Didn't see any leakage from hairline crack in block.

Got the Allis B running on Sunday - pull start after many attempts. Have many issues to sort out: low RPM, starter, clean gas tank, etc.
Clutch, 1-2-R gears (RPM too low to check 3rd gear), brakes and oil pressure seem okay. Ammeter didn't register.
So far: new battery, water pump, starter brushes/bushing, free up engine, had to use temporary plastic lawn mower gas tank.
I will bench test starter to see if it has better torq/power off the tractor. Had many problems removing the old bushing and putting in the 5/8" OD bushing. Maybe Ill drill out to 11/16" as use the bigger bushing - it seems to fit the shaft better. Will also soak the pistons again with ATF - engine had trouble spinning freely on pull start.
Also will work on RPM problem. Clean up carb and throttle linkage.
Your thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated.

if you cant roll it over by hand, then it has too much DRAG and that might effect the "rev up" ..... if the rings are STUCK, you may also be loosing COMPRESSION, which will effect the engine speed and poor idle.

carburetor rod hooks to the governor cross over rod at the left rear corner of the radiator... set the THROTTLE LEVER at wide open... pull the pin at the carburetor rod/ gov arm at the radiator... pull carb ROD forward to WIDE OPEN... see that the rod aligns with the hole in the gov arm... if not, bend the arm.....
this tells you the GOV and CARB are set to get full throttle position.

Let me know if this new google video link works or not. I soaked the pistons in ATF again and the engine spins easily with hand crank.
I put the starter in a jig and it won't turn either by hand or battery. Just too much drag. I will try to install the 11/16" bearing and see if that solves the problem.
I will check the throttle linkage as you suggest, before taking the carb apart.

yep... last photo works.
When you assemble the starter, you should be able to turn the rotor by hand and you should be able to see the bendix screw out as you turn it also..... wire brush the case where it slides into the bell housing, and clean inside the bell housing also... thats your ground path when you tighten the screw..

i thought it was just a photo... clicked on it and got FULL PAGE with a 30 second video !
Actually sounds pretty good when running.... 6 volt batteries turn motor SLOW, not SPIN.. They do work, but EVERYHING has to be CLEAN and TIGHT on the cables.
Those rear tires look NICE !!... Paint is decent... someone has taken care of that old girl !

Yes sir. Rear tires look new. One rear rim is obviously new, and the other in very good shape. The front rims and tires are good. The deceased owners son (my nephew in law) said his father would work on a tractor until he drug home another one, then switch to that one. He had about 25 tractors in process when he died. I bought these at their on line auction, as I really didn't want to offend with low offers with earlier direct buy. Sad that I passed on some other good tractors, but was concerned about getting in over my head.
I borrowed my neighbors 11/16" drill bit so I could use the larger bearing in the starter, but his 11/16" was a hair undersized. Trying to locate another bit that I can use.
I had your notes on how to adjust the throttle rod and found that the throttle shaft rod was not connected to the governor! Hopefully this solves the RPM issue.
On the video, I keep forgetting how to copy/paste these into the tractor post so they are viewable. So here are my notes for a Droid type smart phone. (1) take video on smart phone (2) open Google Photos on your smart phone (3) select the video (4) hit share button below (5) hit create link button - this copies it to clipboard (6) select Gmail to share APPS (7) send to your email address (8) open your email in box, copy the link address, and paste in your tractor forum post.
