That is a Power-Director release. If you hit a big rock or root with a plow or whatever it will kick the PD into neutral.

yup, Paul B is right ! I have one 'on the shelf, somewhere', came off 'Troy'. Only rocks that hurt me are the softball sized ones the rototiller finds.....

Has nothing to do with the snap coupler. It mounts to the hand clutch.

What is the mechanism the other end of the rod is attached to, and how does it work?

Its attached to the traction booster spring, in the bell coupler. Idea is to stop the forward motion instead of allowing the TB to transfer weight. Gives you the option of lifting the plow to test the size of the rock, or to lift, as you reverse out of the situation...

In the original picture...nothing is attached to the PD .....kinda why I was asking...need to find a parts breakdown picture to figure it out..thanks to all ...Mark

I guess that my grade is a D- in mechanical aptitude...my picture shows the kick out in stow position and the later picture is in operating position... still do not know how it kicks out in both PD positions...Mark

If I remember right my dad said it only worked to kick it out of high range. Sort of like the clutch release on the WD. Had one hanging in the shop years ago.

The linkage clamps to the Power Director lever when you need to use the kick out feature. Mine works great in both low and high range when I use the #4 subsoiler on the D14.
