I need info on an ED40. Are parts hard to find and is it rare? I found one and was thinking about buying it.

Yes, they are pretty rare. They were built in the U.K. If you buy it, you will usually have the only one like it at a show... |

Jordan, if the price is right, and she's not too shot, BUY IT! As someone else said, you'll have the only one at the show. There were only about 5000 built, and only a handful went over to the US (about 400 I believe).
The engine is a Standard Ricardo 23c, the same as in the early Ferguson 35, so engine parts are easy to find, they are fairly similar to the D10/D12 etc, so some of the tin may fit. Things may get tricky with gearbox parts and if it has the Depth-o-matic hydraulics, make sure it is all complete and works, because you won't find those parts. If the engine is in good condition, they are a good tractor, but they did have a reputation for poor starting, and the hydraulics weren't the best. One last thing, check the top of the hydraulic housing, if it is not adjusted properly, the internal lifting linkage can come up too far and crack the housing. Any questions, feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer for you. (I'll be away til the 30th so I won't be able to reply til then).

If it seems like a good idea, do it. It's easier to apologise than to get permission.

I went and looked at the tractor. The PTO gear is messed up. All the sheet metal is in excellent shape and the motor runs pretty good. The guy wants 1200 for it. I thought about offering him about 800.

If she runs and the tin is good, I would go for it. The PTO can probably be sorted out.
