I inherited this D12 tractor from my dad that passed away this past June. I really dont know much of anything about it. It started fine while we were in MO for the funeral. I had someone pick it up for me 5 weeks later and they could not get it stared. It turns over fine and will sputter and sometimes run for 3-5 seconds but die and not sputter again. I've changed the gas, cleaned the carb, and checked spark. I installed new plugs. The spark does seem weak and looks like dad recently installed new internals in the distributer. I get 1 strong spark followed by 4-8 weak ones. Any help would be appreciated.

make sure the contacts on the point are CLEAN.... after that, all you got is the condenser and coil......... Is the coil original ? is it 12 volts ? ( assuming you have gas flow)

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Lots of things it COULD be. Start out by eliminating a fuel flow problem, pull the plug on the bottom of carb, and see what comes out. If clean and plenty of flow, pull the air cleaner hose off, take a spray bottle of gas, try starting with a shot of gas into the carb. If it sputters, spray more. Could be a plugged up float valve. Yank a plug and inspect and smell it, smell gassy? Look wet? If fuel system checks out, move on to electrical system.
As others have stated, give the point contacts a good rub with some emory paper. Check the spark at the points, should be white/blue. Check to see if they are open enough, and actually opening and closing when cranking, should just be able to drag a matchbook cover through them when open. Check the plug that the points wire comes through the side of the distributor, bakelite plastic cracks if you crank on it hard with a wrench. Make sure none of the ears of the connections at that little piece of black plastic are close or touching metal. Pull the coil wire out of its socket, at the coil, to see if its corroded. Check that the coil is wired correctly, on an neg ground system, the - on the coil should go to the red wire in your last picture.

Well I figured it out. The distributor wasn't keyed in correctly and I put the carb gasket in upside-down. Thank you for your suggestions!
