just wondering if anyone on here has used one of those turbo kits on there wd45 or 226 for general farm work, or is it something just to be neat

Only do it just for fun, on a spare tractor.
If you need to rely on the tractor to get work done, to generate cash every day for your farm, to feed the kids, I'd avoid adding extra gizmos. Those extra parts are more likely to break and likely to abuse the engine in service so it fails early and when you need it.
Is the goal to put a five bottom plow on a tractor that pulls a four bottom? That would only save an hour or two a day plowing? Take two days to plow the farm vs two and a half days? It breaks down once and you'll lose a week or two of good plowing weather easy.

There is a WD45 diesel turbo locally, pulls in tractor pulls across the state. It is wicked and wins a lot but I’ve seen it break 2 axles. Last I talked to the owner he plans to put D17 components in it.

Should be relatively easy to put a D19 diesel into a WD45D tractor. The ring and pinion on a 45D is already the same as a D17, but the finals I think were different.

I have a 45d with a d19 turbo diesel engine, it works nicely in the field other than the head gasket has problems sometimes...

Talked to a guy that had one on a gas 226, he said it was hard to setup and was finicky. Took it off after a year.

Turbos on gas engine tractors are generally for tractor pulling. Adding a turbo to a diesel for farm work would generally be done to increase fuel efficiency. Using the gained extra power to pull larger implements is usually a plan for headed for breakdowns. In tractor pulling extra power is used by going faster, and staying light. whereas in the field those that want to do more by adding weight to gain added traction are going to experience over stressing driveline components in the long term. Older tractors were generally over engineered and can tolerate increased power to a point. Newer ones are sometimes at their limit with the factory HP. The Farmall 460/560 tractors had many field failures without increased power. I have a turbocharged D10 running on E85 (probably producing close to 100 HP at 4500 RPM) that will pull in 3rd gear weighing 2500/3000 pounds. If I was to weight it up to 5000/6000 pounds something would surely break in the driveline.
