I was using my 1953 CA with my sickle bar mower I've recently fixed to cut our small three acre fields for our couple beef cows. I got about 3/4 the way done with it and it stalled very hard no spitting and no sputtering. It almost seemed like electrical to me so I took the key out someone has retrofitted 12 volt system to this tractor. I'll have to post pictures of how it's done later but does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Check to see if you have spark before condemning the system. If you have spark, simply try to start it. If it starts, most likely it's an intermittent problem.
Check and clean all connections. I've had an ignition switch drive me crazy.

Check the wire from the coil to the distributor. I was sickle mowing yesterday and my D12 died. Checking wiring, that was barely loose but enough so it stopped the spark. Tightened it up and away it went.

Okay I will check that. It cranked over just fine but would not start a few attempts later it fired over and I finished mowing the entire field with no issues. I've never had anything like it happened but it definitely seemed like I just pushed in the kill switch. Not a fuel issue sputtering or anything just completely dead all of a sudden.
Whoever has redone the starting system when they change it over to 12 volt mounted a outside electrical disconnect and the starting switch has gotten really tight as of late so it immediately drew my attention to it I removed it tapped on it a few times and it started so I believe the issue may be just in that switch but I will check everywhere else. Thanks all Edited by Hunt4Allis - 15 Oct 2021 at 7:00am |

Next time it happens, put your hand on the coil, and see if its hot to the touch...

My B stalled exactly like that for me, turned out it was the condenser. It was a first for me in many years of 'tractoring'. I put another condenser in and it has never stalled like that since. Sometimes condensers will work again on cold a start... not to be trusted though.
