Where can I find something to use for spouts on my gas and diesel 5 gallon plastic jugs. Read that the good ones were outlawed in 2009. Will I have to start going to auctions and buy old ones?

Gary, it’s just about at that point. Gas/Diesel cans nowadays suck big time.
Hold this, turn that, push down, let up, It’s absolutely horrible, and after all those motions, it leaves your mower(or whatever your filling), and inch or two from full, and you then need to refill again to finish the job. ABSOLUTE GOVERNMENT MORONS. |
|
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I bought a few that DAVE showed above... Big thing is to get one with the right screw thread on the cap.. or just use the flex hose and old cap if possible.

I remember the good old days when Dad had a couple of steel gas cans with spouts that curved 90 degrees. Never lost a drop. Too bad they eventually wore out. These new ones take someone with a lot of patience and dexterity to operate. I agree, a real pain.

I still use an old 5 gallon can for gas. It has two lids, one for filling and one for pouring. I made a spout from some clear vinyl tubing. Fits tight enough on the pour spout I have screw it on. Works great; been using it for over 20 years.

I have the spouts that Dave posted. If you’re going to fill big things like tractors, get the big diameter spout. When you’re holding a full 5 gallon can over your nicely painted tank, you’ll appreciate the much faster flow.

That's that I've been doing, for years, I have a drawer fulla spouts for the old chilton cans. Today I bought a good chilton can at auction, for $8. Highest I have ever paid, but it was in too good of shape, to let it go. At least the old cans will empty in a couple of minutes, and while using only 1 hand to steady the can! The new ones take a half hour to empty, take 3 hands to manage, and spill major amounts of gas into the environment. Doubtless a major victory for the environazis...

For some gas tanks it just works better to get a good funnel and take the spout right off the can.

I need to get some more diesel and gas jugs.
How well do the metal ones hold up? Internal rust or anything like that? Never had one, just the plastic ones. Mine are starting to crack again.

I have a few cans where I just needed the cap. An empty 20 gauge shell is just the right size. Also have several aftermarket spouts, EZ-pour works the best for me.

I usually us a funnel also. We cover the funnel with a tight weave cloth. The cloth filters out contaminates. Works great.

Was arguing with a young fella at one of those farm and home stores. Asked where are the gas can spout replacements that pour fast . Here they are he says , but why would you want the spout replacement when you can buy a new can for less . I asked if he had ever used one of those new cans . He just gave me a dumb look and said , can't believe you won't just buy a new can.

Yep, been picking up the old cans at estate sales, rummage sales and auctions. Then go here and buy these and if you look, they have a page where they will send you different replacement tops for the correct can for FREE.
