I read in Norm Swinfords book that AC began with Firestone tires on their Model U tractor. Did the BFGoodtich tires eventually became standard equippped on AC? Could an AC dealership order different tires from an arra of brands??

“Silvertown” for implement/tractor?
“Power Grip” for Gleaner drive tires?

  If AC was like other manufactures, who ever had the cheapest bid price on tires got the contract for a certain period of time or for so many tires.

I always thought the BFGoodrich Silvertown was a premium tire on a series 3 or 4 D-17. They stood taller than a Firestone or Goodyear of the same time frame.

When I sold them with my father after WWII when there was no rationing Allis Chalmers tractors came through with one of three brands - Firestone closed center tires, Good Year open center tires and Goodrich open center tires.  Later Firestone came through with the open center slightly curved tread tires.  
To my knowledge we could not request certain tires.

So just wondering...my D17 series 3 still has the BF Goodrich Silvertown's on it. Is it possible those are the original tires?

If it has been shedded all its life, they sure could be. How many hrs on the tractor and how much tread is left ??

The tach and cable was frozen at around 2200 hours when I got it. The tires are probably around 50-60%. The guy I bought it from said it did sit for good number of years without being used.

And it's been shedded most of its life.....??   I know where there's a 1937 WC that had the original tires on it...….low hours of use and always in a shed out of the sunlight.

I own an AC 1010 wagon gear that still runs on Its original Silvertown tires. Guessing it’s 1970s era?

I got a pair of new looking 23.1 x 30 BF Goodrich Silvertowns from a low hour Gleaner G. Now on my OneNinety NF. Very original 1960 D12 has original BFG's
