Hello all!
Recently got my 1939 model b running, but am having throttle range and governor issues. I think the governer to carb linkage is very, very wrong for the tractor. I was wondering if someone could pull some dimensions from thier early B so I can set it right. I need the total length the the location of the governor spring hole. Note I need this for the early b with the governor control shown. The later B's are different. Any help would be greatly appreciated! https://youtu.be/-F5jrDLYp5s ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Garth, the procedure for setting ALL carb linkages is to set the throttle lever at WIDE OPEN.... than will pull the advance spring and rod to the MAX... now go to the carb side of the motor.... link should be attached to carb and OFF at the FRONT END above the generator ( alternator).... pull the carb throttle rod wide open... Now match up the rod with the arm that runs across the front of the motor... If the holes dont line up, bend the arm until then align... Make sure the arm does not drag on the valve cover or thermostat housing.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I have a 1939 B, #19255. Runs fine, so governor is ok.
What exact length do you need? From the rod spring hole to where?

With the engine OFF, set the throttle to wide open. Disconnect the link rod from either the carb end or the front end. The EXACT length should be exactly that which fits !! In other words when you disconnect it, the cross arm shouldn't move. There is no "number" in inches, because it varies from one engine to the next. The cross arm needs to be bent to make things fit.
