A gal on Facebook said she'd bring a recipe to the farmers market. I ask her if I could BBQ it with my Rattlesnake. Dang things are illegal to hunt now, I gotta run over their heads to get them legally.

we use asparagas alot when cooking on the grill, great by itself or with cheese on it. if it's wild asparagas, that stuff tastes a WHOLE lot better than the regular. people hunt the wild stuff like they hunt for morels around here. we grill it, steam it, cut up and use in beans, soups, chili, burgers. pick it and offer it for sale, most anyone will buy it!

Ours ain't pokin' out of the ground yet but when it does there's usually lots. Most gets picked and ate raw by the grandkids as they seem to get to it first! Sometimes I get my share! I like it raw or lightly steamed.

HD6,
What's the deal with rattlesnakes being illegal to kill. Can't imagine having those things around. Knew a fellow once that had been bitten by one on his left index finger and it left the finger permanently useless.

It seems in Iowa, rattlesnakes are protected and only timber rattlers can be killed if within 50yds of a residence.

AC hunter. Several years ago some
idiots decided their getting hard to find. Obviously they ain't been to this part of the state. I've found them in my timber, along the private road leading back to a cemetery and along the class B road just west of us. If your walking thru the timber, you gotta look up, down and side to side. Neighbor has a rocky lane leading back to one of his hay patches. I used to bale it, saw them along that lane. I mow 10' over on the neighbors property. That seems to keep them outta that yard. |

HD6,
Hard to find is what I think they should be. I have read that in years past some areas would have snake hunts to eliminate them. Wonder what purpose they are supposed to serve. Friend of mine near Tucson, AZ recently sent me an article about rattlers out there and how expensive the antivenom serum is for treatment of bites. Can get quite a few thousands of dollars in a hospital visit or perhaps stay. Said the snake venom starts to digest the flesh it penetrates. Wonder if those snake do-gooders actually know anything about what they think they are protecting.

I never kill a snake unless it is a poisonous one. Why would anyone wish to kill a black snake for instance?

I never liked asparagus.
I raise rhubarb and sell it all summer. Which I really like. Each his own.
