I had power steering an remote hydraulics go out at the same time. Back story is pump went out an the problem was a piston head broke off an stuck swash plate.
I had another pump that was bad so I made 1 work out of 2. After I put it together it worked for about 30 hrs an quit. Symptom are no remotes an power steering cavitation |

The power steering pump charges the piston pump, so if you didn't take it apart and at least inspect it, there may be trouble. Using anything but an AGCO set of hydraulic filters is asking for problems.

I would say 30 hours is about time for a aftermarket filter to collapse MACK.

They are all aftermarket filters. Agco don't have a filter factory they just contract them made.

BUT, they are made to AGCO's specs and many of these other "after-market" filters may be the right shape and size, but they are too fine of micron and they PLUG easily. I had this argument with a Customer 25 yrs ago that his hydraulic problem was the brand XXX filters he installed in his 7020 tractor. He absolutely couldn't believe it, but that's what the problem was.

Starving the gear pump for oil. He drove the tractor 30 miles for me to fix it and I could hear the pump cavitating when he drove in. I told him it sounded like a problem with the left-hand filter door. He told me not to change the filter because it was new. Things went downhill after that. Two new AGCO filters and he was fixed and mad at me for changing his new brand XXX filters and throwing them away.

Wix builds Carquest and AGCO both but that doesn't mean they are the same. I ran the Carquest for 400hrs in my 8070 with no trouble and changed them for AGCO 2 yrs ago. At least AGCO includes the o-rings. Not arguing, just saying.

I have a 7020 powershift and I use Wix filters. The trans filter seemed to be clogging too easy but I think it was the generic 821 fluid I was using. I changed to the John Deere fluid that is nice and clear. I think that is better.

my bet is that back when Dr Allis had those problems with filters, many others did too, and the aftermarket companies usually do try to correct issues. They probably thought they were doing a good thing by offering their filter with smaller micron rating, which in theory sounds great, but if it cannot flow the volume, it ends up causing more problems. Hyd systems don't need as small a micron filtering as diesel fuel injection systems.

My bad filter issue was at least 25 yrs ago, but not more than 30 years ago. I wish I could remember which brand the filters were.

I'll start something else while we are on that subject. We started selling Wix products where I worked back 2003. I had to go to the Wix factory in North Carolina for a couple days training. They said the micron deal was a basically a scam. That somebody thought it up to sell more filters probably. They said they had to start saying it too because every other filter company was doing it. They said you can't grind up paper and mix it all up and roll out a sheet of it and say it is 10 or 20 micron or whatever. Also they said that as the filter is used and traps particles that the holes keep getting smaller. They said in a way the filter was doing its best filtering about the time you take it off because the holes keep getting smaller. I ask if the filters they made for Carquest and Napa were any different than the Wix and they said the label was the only difference.

Messicks has some really good videos on YouTube where they cut open oem and generic filters to see what the differences are.

Second Oring keeps sucking into the filter housing ?? which filter?? the LEFT filter ?? Maybe the non-AGCO filter has been too short, not opening the oil door enough....
