Has anyone rebuilt or has knowledge for parts.  Found 2 roller bearings {ball bearings} water, mud, little oil in the housing.     Any help aqppreated    Allen Dilg  847 244 7two57

Allen,
I had a series 2 D10 that I restored in 1999. The steering box had a lot of play in it. As I remember: it was originally made by Ross Gear, which later was bought out by TRW.
Some of the important things I remember:
The steering shaft has a worm gear on the end of it. There are thrust washers that need to be added usually to the end of the worm gear. These washers help eliminate play. Sorry, I don't have a current source for precision thrust bearings.
The worm gear also engages 2 cone shaped pins. The pins get worn on their sides from the worm gear. This causes more slop. As I remember you can rotate these pins 90 degrees and eliminate some more of the play.

A series III steering box is different.

I just had one rebuilt by pros, two brothers that have rebuilt steering boxes for 42 years. It took over six months to get it back because the hunt for parts was so hard. The bearings were a Ford parts #, other parts were the same as Jeep, some he had to custom make. When it was finished he told me "this is better than brand new" and no kidding it is tight enough to be in a race car, it was really bad before. The rebuilder took amazing pride in his work, maintaining clearances as though it would have been a swiss watch. Sorry I don't have any parts numbers for you.
Currently- WD,WC,3WF's,2 D14's B. Previously- I 600,TL745,200,FL9,FR12,H3,816 LBH. Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal!

There was a post on here from DEP5 dated 10 July 2019. Topic was D10 Series III steering lever. Lots of good info in that post. Details on parts and a supplier.
