Hello,
I’m new to the forum. Looking for some help with my 200 it’s a 1973. My brother and I rebuilt the transmission and power director. Lots of metal contaminates in the hydraulic system causing us to put a new/used dual stage pump on. While rebuilding everything we added 2 gauges to constantly monitor the hydraulic pressure to the power director Hi/Lo. I believe it should be about 280 to 300 psi. Worked extremely well for the first year. Now the issue.... I can’t seem to get enough pressure to the power director, only about 240 psi. Not enough.... we all know what happens when not enough pressure to the PD.. Is there a relief valve?? Is the pump not creating enough psi? How and where do I test the relief valve. Any help would be appreciated.

The factory manual would help you a lot. This can be a real head scratcher. It will be probably lost motion in the linkage, there was a field repair to the linkage that increased the length of the shift. linkage has to be adjusted properly, or the PD valve can be defective. This is assuming everything inside the PD clutch is good. The best way to check some of this is to clamp a pair of vise grips to the shaft that shifts the PD, when you have it in forward or reverse turn the shaft a little tighter and see if that increases the pressure.

Thank you very much for the response. I should’ve added this in initially, but the linkage has very little to no play. It is all rebuilt to specs. We do have a manual for it, which we have read front to back a couple of times. Haha. Also, I have tried shimming the power director valve to increase psi. with no results. Do you think it’s possible the relief valve is bleeding off the pressure I need? Don’t want to smoke the PD discs!

Then you have the relief spool that has the little plunger in the end that can be tight it should slide in and out easy

Sounds like you may have leaks in Pd. Seal rings , orings, and worn housings.
Did you replace shaft bushing on side of torque tube? MACK

Thank you for the reply Mack, I value your opinion based upon your replies to other posts. As far as the leaks in the PD. It was rebuilt with all new parts. We took bore measurements of the housing where the steel seals ride and they were within specs and new seals. One other thing I failed to mention that may help with the diagnosis is that when I have a remote hydraulic cylinder such as the head on our baler It is not as responsive as when we have Our 185 or even our 180 on it. It’s driving us nuts!

Does it gave a hydraulic PTO? The relief valve is in valve body in line with shifter spool. They get foreign material in them causing them to stick. Remove and clean. MACK

My 200 did not have the hyd. pto shift valve. I tried everything I or anyone else would suggest. I knew the pd valve was sticking. I disassembled it, polished it the best I could, hard to polish in that small bore, put it back together. It did not stick anymore but still didn't correct the problem. I was in local salvage yard getting parts for another tractor and they had the rear of a 200. It had the same type valve used on the one I was working on. I bought the valve, installed it, the problem was now solved. I do not know if this is your problem, but I know it can be hard to solve!

Can you rebuild the power Director valve? And the relief valve in the power Director is the one that you can shim? Thought it may have been the main pump, We rebuild that. Everything looked ok in the main pump. This is really a head scratcher. I took the relief spool out of the PTO valve and that is free so that’s not stuck. Don’t know where else to go.

Disconnect the two lines that go to the PTO clutch box from the PTO control valve and plug them. Now, with the PTO clutch/brake eliminated, see what you can do for pressures.
