got 180 pounds of spuds planted here. Have to wait till Pontiac showgrounds dry more before we can plant 150 pounds up there. Used one of the old sunstar 20's to pull it with this time and it worked excellent. I made this planter 35 years ago and it has planted many acres for us and other people who borrowed it to plant theirs with it. ![]() |

Now that's a lot of potatoes. Do you sell them later? Looks like a handy little potato planting rig there. Your soil looks to be in good shape for planting too. Surprising it looks so dry this early. Ours would be a mess if we tried to work it so far.
In the background of your picture looks to be an old chicken house? Another of the disappearing farm buildings along with grainaries and old style hog houses not to mention out houses. Hope the 'taters do well. Thanks for the picture.

Thanks Tracy! --- Ya I just ignore the cancer and shove on with life ----- gotta keep movin no matter how much it hurts! Dont get much done each day but I do what I can. We have been blessed with good ground here and I am happy about that. We keep hauling in compost and mixing with the dirt each fall and rip and plow deep to help keep the ground soft. ---crops love it. My old planter is a crude dude but works great. ---- saves a LOT of work planting spuds.

Today we got the potatoes and corn planted up at Pontiac club showgrounds. Planted 150 pounds to see if we can do a digger demo at the show this fall. Mike planted the corn with his tractor and planter and Virginia and I planted the spuds with our homemade planter.

Ya! --- I have heard the St. Patties day, ---Good Friday, ---- AND the hundredth day are good days. ---some say in the dark of the moon, so kinda hard to figure out! lol! We always try for good Friday here IF weather permits, --- if not then get them in as early as you can. We usually have good luck with them here and grow a decent yield so have a lot to share. If you keep pushing dirt up around the plants and make a big mound ---- they will fill the loose dirt of the mound then stop! ---- bigger mound = more spuds! crazy but thats what we found here! lol Also need a LOT of water and fertilizer during growing season.
