What’s the difference in governors between the G2800 engine in the tractor and the combine.

Governor on the combine is set to run at low idle and wide open with nothing in between. Tractor governor gives you speeds between low idle and wide open.

Governor weights are different/heavier on the combine engine if I remember correctly. This requires more spring pressure to get the same high idle speeds, but makes the governor much quicker responding.

All depends on what kind of rules you have to pull under. Stock RPM's ?? Open RPM's ?? 3,000 max RPM's ??

I'd use a tractor governor and more spring pressure. The combine governor might explode at that RPM with the heavy weights flying around. Drill a new hole for the governor spring to hook into up as high as possible on the governor arm.

Yes, on that engine. If you drill a new hole in the governor arm as high as possible for the spring to hook into, you should get close to 3,000 RPM I would guess. You'll have to modify the throttle cable anchor to aim the spring towards the new higher hole. If you need more RPM than what that gets you, connect a second spring in the old spring hole and anchor it somehow to keep constant tension pulling on the governor arm, so when you move the throttle lever you'll have two springs pulling. Governor action won't be great at part throttle settings, but will be gooood at full throttle.
