Hello. First time in. I have a final drive clutch that is slipping when under a load. The pto is fine but drive slips. It appears to have good disk. It drives fine until a load is applied. Any help will be great. Thank you

Are you sure the hand clutch isn't slipping?

The final drive clutch is the hand clutch. You can try the adjustment pretty much never works. When you rebuild it you have to grind a few thousandths off the housing support towers. I don't rember off the top of my head but someone did a nice write up on rebuilding the hand clutch. I think it's in the repair forum.

Send it to Rick. He is on this forum and does a great job. Had him rebuild my CA hand clutch a couple of years ago. He will walk you through any problems too.

Hello. I believe it is the hand clutch. I took it apart and cleaned the disk. It did have grease and a lot of debris in the housing as well as brakes that are completely worn plenty of disk left on clutch. I was curious about the springs applying enough pressure. milling down the housing would help. Not sure how to test without putting it back together
By the way. If I can figure out how I will send photos of both sister tractors I have restored. Thank you |

Rick is the man to go to with clutch problems. I have had him build 2 pulling clutches and a hand clutch and pressure plate. All worked perfect. Thanks for Rick. Have a great day and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all. Gary

Be certain to grind 1/8" off the "ears" of the clutch housing. We found out back in the 50's with some experimenting. Worked fine Also, we replaced all the springs balls and clutch pads. Worked fine thereafter.
There is also a good post on the CA hand clutch in the Knowledge section of this forum Let us know how it goes. Welcome! You have a great plowing tractor. Really powerful for it's size. Would love to see pictures. Good Luck! Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! Bill Long

Thank you. Having trouble finding parts. One source wanted $100 for the springs. I will try again to post photos of both CA they are great running tractors. And pull three furrows easily. Just been lucky to have both sisters same year make and model only a few serial numbers apart. Thank you for the help. Anxious to get her back working to get the field turned under

My hand clutch loosens up I need to tear it apart and put some lock tight on the bolts that hold it together.
