I have been debating this project for a while. To remove or keep my PTO. I always thought the B's with the rear end cover plate was a different feature you don't see too often. Since I don't have any powered implements to go with this tractor I decided it's time.
The unsuspecting victim. |

The PTO unbolted. A couple of taps with a mallet and the seal was broken.

The PTO is off. I was amazed at how easy it was to remove. Slid right off. Thanks to those who provided info on how much a PTO weighs. It was heavy but easily handled by me.

FYI. I'm keeping the PTO. It will stay with tractor in case I want to put it back on. There was nothing wrong with it and it does work well.

Everything inside looks great! Not bad for a 70 year old.

I can tell you put a lot of thought into what you do BEK. Cookie sheets on the floor, asking about the weight AHEAD of time, how clean that tractor is, inside and out... Well done! |

BEK, You have a very unique B. I can't remember any without the PTO.
You know, that was how they came from the factory. The PTO's were installed in the field. They were heavy and awkward to install but there was a method to it. You got a lift and a swing so that it went on the top stud. Then you moved it into place. Secret was to get the shifter square on the drive gear properly. We sure put enough of them on.
Nice Looking B. Thanks for taking such good care of my favorite. Good Luck! Bill Long ps: I do remember seeing a CA - I think - with a delete plate. I talked with the owner and since he was pulling with it he did not want power to be drawn off by the PTO and the hydraulic.

My B did not have a PTO and belt pulley assembly until recently I think when one was installed by the previous owner. When I bought the tractor from him, he included the cover plate. I have it in the shop.

I thought the same thing - that larger PTO is a nice feature to have when you're using the PTO feature of the B or C. Not that there aren't adaptors, but it just simplifies things.
