Well, buddy of mine is bringing a Second Derelict with bad wiring to repair the rusted hulk of Brother In Law. That stated decided to take my GMC down to the barn, try to rig up a fuel pump system get running top fluids and drive the ungainly monster to the shop. Not happening today.
RF Brake not wanting to release on GMC, so 180 comes out, Grain Truck In, had purchased replacement front brake lines a few months or so back, figuring one may be holding pressure, wheels off, NOT the problem, RF caliper frozen extended, LF caliper has one piston that has not ever extended so are recent rebuild exchanges, just seized. Call local parts house have the calipers, no pads, mine are cooked, will have another set in morning. Build those to new hoses and swap with new pads. THEN MAYBE can move on to Another problem and/or get the rust bucket up here. So here I sit yet again, all ahead stop.

I have come to the conclusion that the best way for me to do a brake job on my older trucks is to replace Everything. Maybe a little bit more expensive but less work and more peace of mind.

Calipers and wheel hoses are swapped, did that after dinner last night as temps dropped drastically with storm front, should have pads in hand in around a hour then can finish this one. Rained BIG Time last night and again this morning, no intention of diddling with the rust ball today(Has NO Driver side door window).

All done early this morning, turned in cores and picked up pads then finished assembly. Stops fine, accelerates better than ever has.
Old adage, Too fast fir the Field, Too Slow for the Road, GO International, If it won't run paint it Red, if it still won't Chrome it!! Well I did paint the bed sides basically IH Red when installed them, and NOW TADA, the Replacement 'Coated' Calipers have added the 'Chrome Touch'!! It is NOT a Corn Queen IHC but responds as one!! If it sits a lot I like to take sandpaper where the caliper slides on the mount and after I sand it I will put some anti seize on the contact area.

Pistons seized in these, no amount of external would have helped.

Old auto parts store I use to use (now out of business) said rather than buying caliper and then pads , just buy loaded unit with everything there - said they got them cheaper that way than as 2 separate parts but it took a extra day for them to get them in as didn't stock them .
But it was the kind of place where when you asked for a part you never got someone asking a lot of questions that didn't make a difference - give them year, size, and 2 or 4 wheel drive and they got your part from stock |

That's about the way it is now a days. Ask for piont & condeser for a briggs engine and they need to know what it's in because they don't know anything about parts just what the comtuter tells them.

First one complete, back to the Other beast!!
Got running this morning, homemade standpipe to a electric pump, , topped fluids then off to the shop and parked until wasp treated. Now to start stripping it down to whatever is salvageable or repairable when the other body arrives.

Had a White Road Boss as Siemer Milling, was fine like that Summer except in the rain, in the winter driver would take a box of rags and old blanket shards, stuff in all the holes to get a little defrost to work!!

Well the fella bringing the other Chevy is also aligning to bring the other Half of this prize package as soon as gets crane off it, a 1963 Autocar DC-87 single axle truck. In parts and pieces, been started Twice at least as to a overhaul project and owned twice soon to be three times as a project.
Cab is the old White style STEEL cab built by Kelowna Body Works. It is solid no bondo surprisingly where the engine is a fresh rebuild 290 Cummins with a added aftercooler, that has however not been started in eight years. Will take a little caressing to get it back alive properly. 5x4 transmission set, old style axles on Minnesota Mags (Dayton Spoke Wheels) so will be a candidate for some other improvements, does have new brakes and new tires even as not been utilized in those same eight years. All the parts are in crates that put this monster back together. Is a Round Fender not the old Tread Plate squared sets. ![]() ![]() Edited by DMiller - 15 Aug 2020 at 6:30am |

Got a Good Laugh today, BIL was informed the body donor was headed this way where he stated still sending the title, does NOT want the truck back now. Has seen what I have done as far as using and he failed to ever really use where I have also repaired nearly everything he had on a wish list, payback is I get to keep it. Yea for me!!!

Well the Autocar is NOT going to happen, that 'Friend' of mine in OK decided he needed to Up the Ante for the project and the chevy donor trucks, his loss most likely my gain as I said enough and backed away gracefully. He may decide to not be as conversational from now on as I essentially stiff armed him but I figure a agreement is a agreement and no renegotiating later.
Had intended he get LP Grain truck above and the 7G once back to usable, Both running and operating but hey, what do I know about 'Collectable' trucks. It will sit in that corner of his shed now and be as ignored as ever where the engine will seize from just sitting. Oh Well, guess I will just have to be depressed without the project.
