I know this has been discussed on here but there is one question I still have. I am putting a 262 gas in a wd45. In order to slide it in I need the correct flywheel and clutch. I have not been able to locate a wd45d flywheel but in another post it mentioned a cockshutt 40 or 50 flywheel will work and I found one of those. My question is if I use a cockshutt flywheel what starter do I need? I found a wd45d starter that would mate to the wd45d flywheel. Will that starter work on a cockshutt flywheel too?

I have an unstyled WC that I repowed with a 262 . You also will need a wd45D adapter plate, and possibly front engine mount. You using all wd 45d parts you'll bolt it together, on my WC a diesel starter has the gear shift tower in the way , Steve at B & B built a super duty 12 volt starter. after some measuring I had the flywheel machined to be able to move the starter ring gear for proper mesh. Front engine mounts were fabbed for left and right sides, the right side also mounts the alternator. Good luck with your project.

im always up for more power, just make sure its legal where you pull or places you might go. no 17 gas came with 262, so most places would require the 4 cylinder.

Technically yes they made d-17 where's the 262 they were put in Cotton pickers and it should write in the manual not recommended for Farm used but the tractor could be taken out of a cotton picker and used Creston you're the Cotton pickin Man can you clarify that

that is true, but its not a D17 Its a cotton picker chassis

Most clubs I have looked up just make you have an engine from the factory design block. The 262 gas is the same design block as the 230 diesel and this will be a wd45d clone. I have the adapter plate figured out. I’m really just stuck on the flywheel right now.

Hey Gary! Did you ever finish that Tractor? That was a awesome looking beast! I remember you had it for sale for a while, and I actually thought about purchasing that from you, but didn't have the room nor the time to fetch it. I knew you took ill for a while when it was going together. Do you still have the Tractor yet? Just curious... Steve@B&B

Folks , I am just taking a guess at this, but I think that is all "code" for: I am retiring soon and would really like a another awesome tractor project! Or maybe not?:) Steve, just jerking your chain a little! It sounds like a neat tractor build. Regards, Chris

Do you have the flywheel, I have a 45 diesel flywheel laying here not for sale but I could give you some measurements if that helps

I found a flywheel. Thanks though. My line on my starter fell through though. Guy ended up having a gas starter.
Going to have to figure out what to do for that. Anyone one here ever modify any starter to work with a diesel flywheel? Whether it was a gas starter or something aftermarket? The ring gear has 100 teeth.

I finally got the project done. Eventually I am going to bump up the compression and run it on 110. Have a set of diesel pistons I am hoping I can make work.
