C overhaul concern

I have a 1948 C that the motor was stuck (it was a give away tractor). Ordered an in frame overhaul kit with sleeves and pistons and rings. When we compared the old to new sleeves, the new ones are shorter as the taper is gone but I don't think this is a problem. The next issue appears to be that there is a groove in the block for an o ring but not in the old sleeve while the new sleeves have grooves in them for o rings. This groove in the block also appears to line up with the groove in the new sleeve making for a "double" void. The o rings on the new sleeve don't completely fill the void of the groove on the new sleeve either. Called the dealer and he had no help as they have never had any questions. The tractor does have the fuel tank like the "power unit" would have but I assumed the internals of the motor were common from tractor to power unit application. Help me please if I am missing something obvious as I am a novice but learning. Thank you!

From what I see, your engine is a later model (from a D10/12) rather that a correct block for a C. The new sleeves are correct for a BE/CE block. The old sleeves are for a D10/12 block. Find the serial number on the block to confirm this. It should be a number beginning in CE______.  This number should be on the edge of the flange near the air cleaner.  
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

Thank you. So from what you are telling me, I would need an overhaul kit for the D10/12 model of tractor as someone "upgraded" the engine it appears for whatever reason. I will try find that number and post it as a reference if you can again help educate me.

The quick way to tell if it is a D10/12 block---Does it have a place for the hydraulic pump to be driven underneath the governor? The D10/12 blocks have this hole, the BE/CE blocks do not.
  Show us a picture looking forward at the right front of the engine.

Elliot, i  just GOOGLED for a photo and Yesterdays Tractor came up first..  I know there are others on this site and Dealers that sell kits also.

Looking closely at the pistons in the link from Steve, I see they have domes. Those pistons are not desirable for the D10/12 engines. With the flat head of the D10/12 a crater piston works much better.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

thabk you all. the number i find in the area shown above appeaers to be 10-43825 or s. the old pistons are 3 5/16" diameter.

I think the 10 - number means it was a D10 motor... but you have too many digits after that as far as i can tell... i thought they were all 4 digits....... And your BORE is 3-5/16 ?  The original motor was 3-3/8 i believe 138 cubic inches.

You are correct on the original from what I can google. I may be off a 16th with the tape measure as that what was I used. Starting to seem it is a D10 and that helps as hopefully I can return the gaskets and pistons and sleeves kit as the valve train parts will work in both the C and D10 from what I can find.
