Anyone have a right side lift cable for a 720 sickle mower? It is longer than the one for a belly mower. It looks like they are no longer available.

Not having any luck, no longer available which I really don’t understand. It’s such a needed part, that wears. So why discontinue it? Anyway I am trying to find a cable company that may be able to make one. The lead crimps that I use are not holding up. Came loose again yesterday.

My 2 720 sickle mowers are at the Pinckneyville tractor show his weekend and I'm going to Rantoul next weekend but if you do not have the length by the 27th of August, let me know and I will take one off and get you a measurement. Den

Thanks Den, I really need the measurement and since your willing to do that for me I can wait until you get back unless someone else posts the measurement. I measured the left side and it’s 55”. I’m guessing maybe it will be around 60”? Also Den, verify its 3/16” cable. Someone I think posted some time back that it may be a 1/4” cable due to the weight that it has to lift.
Thanks again. |

The cable is larger than the left side.
By the way, don't be afraid to remind me when the time comes...just don't remember everything I need to do. Den |

A bit of good news today. Brenda at SLI was able to get me the size of the cable and the length eye to eye. It is 1/4” galvanized aircraft cable. 7x9 strand. 64.916” long. One thing I had not noticed before is the end that attaches to the mower is actually a rounded eye instead of the U clip that is generally used. Now I can make some phone calls hopefully tomorrow to see if I can find a vender to make it. |

Brian, I went to my local Ace Hardware and picked up the necessary cable and parts to make a cable. It involves swaging method but luckily a friend has the tool. They also sell the tool there. It will be the weekend until I put it together so I will let you know how it works. The good news is I have the measurements and now the supplies. Look up swaging on utube good videos there.

I’m sorry this is taking so long, so let me fill you in. My friends swagging tool wasn’t the correct size and the local tool stores do not sell one. So I had to order one which wasn’t cheap. Also ordered the special crimps. I have made the round crimp with a rope cable protector that attaches to the mower. Problem now is the tractor end. The U shaped connector that is on the smaller 3/16” cable is not wide enough for a crimp to fit inside, so I will have to have a machine shop make one. Going by in the morning to see if he has time to make one. Will update as soon as I can.

Hello everyone, I am new here, but I am in need of this same lift cable for the sickle bar. If a method of attaining one is met I would be interested as well. Thanks
For those interested in knowing, I have an Allis Chalmers 720 with 60" belly mower, the above mentioned sickle bar mower, a front mount 60" snow plow, rear mount cultivator, and the 52" snow thrower. |

Would be interested if you are willing to sell me one. I tried making one myself, but the crimp joint did not hold up. Edited by Skipp72 - 13 Oct 2019 at 8:59am |

Skip and Brian, I will be glad to make both of you one if mine passes my testing. My machine shop called and he has my U brackets made so I am picking them up tomorrow. I should know in a week or so how my crimps hold up at the tractor attachment point. The factory cable had a steel crimp that was pressed on all 4 sides. I can only do the swagging process. Will give an update when I can. Should have no issue at the mower attaching point.

I did make a cable and it works well. But I had a limited time to do a long term test due to the mowing season coming to an end. Will be glad to go ahead and make you one as long as you understand my limited testing. I have all the confidence it should be fine.

I am definitely interested. I am not , however, in any rush, as I would not likely need my sickle bar till around June.
