I got the HF one. The quality leaves something to be desired, however I am a casual user and it serves its purpose for me.

I've got 3 or 4 of the them ( have 2 drill presses), NONE are beside the drillpress I use, hmmmmmmm) The big deal is to put thread locker on the screws securing the movable jaw ! Tighten just enough for a smoooooooth fit. From the factory, they're too loose.

Yeah I don't need one very often so a cheap one should do . Yeah,,AC,,you answered the main point,,,, It all depends on how often a guy uses the tool,,,,AND,,,how close you want your work to be. I've got 2 HF ones and have always been satisfied with their performance,,,,, Say,,,maybe the Guru's here can help me ID an older vise I picked up at a yard sale ,,,It is 6# wide and 12" long with a removable handle. Only'ist numbers on it are " #3 " The end of the screw is square where the handle goes. The moving jaw has adjustable plates underneath for really close work. That sob weighs at least 50#,,,,,?? Anybody recognize it,,?

I have found that there is more wobble in my cheap drill press spindle than in jaws of my cheap vice. I do have a very good drill press with a very good vice for the stuff that requires it.

I would think the quality of the HF vise is as good or better that the one from TSC. IMHO the prices at TSC seem to exceed the quality of their products, especially their tools.

Probably madein same facory by same chines machinest .
Have a couple cheap ones by drill press but when it's got to be right - use the vertical mill and Bridgeport vice clamped to the ways on the mill |

I have a cross slide and a regular one from HF, and yes they are loose but do hold really good. I have drilled some nasty stuff that was being held in them. Also use them as a welding vise since welder is close by. I think they are worth the price. IF ya gotta have +- .0001 --- No good, but for our use they suffice !
