They certainly aren't no fun.

I head for the shower and turn the shower hose water to as Hot as I can stand it.

Usually get relief in a few minutes.

Yep best to see the man. Lots of things can cause this type of problem, not just vitamin or mineral deficiency, could be a combo to. My BIL had this problem and had to go to emergency it was that bad. Turns out his liver was starting to act up, they got it handled and he's all better. Hopefully it ain't that extreme, but they caught it early enough to fix him.

Hi Joe,
I keep a supply of CrampX on hand.
You can order it from amazon. Our local HyVee grocery store has it, so maybe your big grocery carries it too.
I support the development of hybrid automobiles and alternative fuels as I need DIESEL fuel for my ALLIS CHALMERS!

Joe, you most likely got something going on it seems to me that most typical home remedies ain't going to remedy.  BUT, did you try finding some of that spascupreel I told you about?  You don't have to take a regular dosage of it, you just take when you feel one coming on or have one take you by surprise.  IT HELPS A LOT.  I didn't need it for leg cramps, mine was a back issue, but it should help you.  At least worth a try.

My legs and feet have cramped at night for many years, until,in August I had to go to the hospital to have a quad bypass, and before surgery, they had me on an IV for 5 days before they operated.
A couple of things they had in the IV was potassium and magnesium, and so far I have had only minor cramping.
Maybe coincidence, but it may bear asking your DR. to test your levels.

If I do get one, and still at home, I go for a drink of pickle juice, works every time for me.

I know if I don`t drink water,  I will have some dozys,  I`ve heard of pickle juice before and I`ve been told that bananas help too.  Potassium is suppose to help.

Potassium is necessary for stabilizing electrolytes, so take it to reduce cramping.
Magnesium is necessary for rebuilding the sclera (the lubricant sheathing for nerves).  Take it to recover from nerve pinches.

The one to look out for... is Deep Vein Thrombosis.  If your lower leg gets crampy, swollen up, and stiff, get to your doctor quick.  DVT is the result of a clot forming in the deep vein in back of your knee.  It will restrict blood returning from your lower leg and foot.  You'll notice it long before it can do any damage to your foot...

But if that clot busts loose, it's on a high-speed collision course with your heart and lungs... results in a pulmonary embolism (blockage in the lungs)... you'll be coughing up blood, and a first-class ticket to the wrong side of the flowerbed...
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
