How many concave bars are you using and how wet is the corn?

What size pulley are you using on right side of cylinder? How much corn is in return? Are you settling cylinder clearance by gauges on side, or measure? MACK

Correct cylinder pulley for corn is 20 inches in diameter and almost rubs on the tailings return tube. Cylinder speed needs to be 500 RPM or less. How fast are you running it ??

Setting cylinder clearance by gauges. Nothing in the tailings return. Cylinder speed is slowed all the way down. I will check pulley. Bin is free of debris, just cracking kernels is only problem
Thanks cory |

Unless you have "set" your gauges, I would not trust them

Thanks cory |

I have only 3 conclaves. So I'm in search of a 20" drive shieve.
It has an 8.5" shieve on it now. Thanks cory |

I never run one on door in corn unless I'm in rocks or dozed ground with roots. Corn will beat door latch to death.
If you have the 8.5 pulley, you grinding corn. I think I have a 20" pulley, will check tomorrow. MACK |

you should be able to shell all the corn off 25% cobs with 3 concaves...get below 18 and get by with 2

You will need a longer belt also with the bigger pulley.

We ran a K in corn for about 15 years. Great little machine for the job. I played with it gradually and finally got it dialed in where I liked it. Had a good set of bars, 20" pulley and three of the round concave bars in the places they recommended above. If the corn is wet or has the cob mold you will need to add a standard concave in place of a round concave bar. Your not going to completely eliminate cracking in todays yields but this setup always worked very well for me.

All the F-2's were sold got the 16.5 inch pulley. The slowest it would allow was 500 RPM, which is still plenty fast for corn, but when doing beans you didn't have to change to another size pulley.

OMG Mack, that makes PERFECT sense about the corn/door rasp bar!! May I ask what position of the bars you run in corn ? We have aftermarket wide spaced cylinder bars in the F2 now. Thanks .

Start at second position then 4 for two bars. Book tells you how to space. Every other one. If more are needed for complete threshing they add at the rear on concave door. I don't have rocks so I run 2 concaves in #2 in corn and beans.

Like SteveM said, but always one on door in beans. There's always a stick or something around the edges. MACK

For this very reason, I had picked up a 16.5" at the salvage yard some time ago and was going to put it on my K2 to harvest beans this fall since the decal on my combine listed this combination as an option. I found out there was no belt made for putting the 16.5" on the K2, so went back to the 13".

I usually pick around 18%. this year it was 21-22. I cracked a bunch of corn. Wonder if that's part of the trouble?

No more cracking of the kernels. Made sure I had 3 concave bars, which I did. I had to buy a 20" drive pulley for cylinder, and a longer belt of course.
Machine does a nice clean job. Thanks cory |

MACK, I hope your right on the rasp bar placement (none on the door in corn). I removed the door bar and installed bars at #2 and #4 spots. The original setup was door and #3. Dad swore it had always had 3 bars in it
