So my shop manual for this tractor shows four quarts of oil needed for the motor but does not specify what weight oil it needs?
I'm in NE Ohio and it's been 90 degrees lately, so I'm looking for the best weight oil for summertime going into fall with keeping in mind that I'm going to be using this tractor for a lot of work coming up including running a 5 foot brush hog, sickle mower and possibly plowing?

I use 15W-40 diesel grade oil in almost every engine I own and its quite a few of them
from 1 cylinders to my Landini with the 354 Perkins.Also  use it in my CA.Oil has changed dramatically since the CA was built.

When these tractors were built, straight weight oils were the norm. Multi-viscosity oils are better suited for a wide range of temperatures, like the extreme heat you are experiencing right now.

Since AC says 10W for cold weather, I would probably not go to a lighter weight than that. I, personally use 10W-30, but a lot of guys are using 10W-40 or even 15W-40. I would hesitate to use 5W, fearing it may be a little too thin to maintain oil pressure on a bypass system.

Dad always used 10W-30 in his WD-45 regardless of the weather / temps since it was new. The tractor has never been overhauled and did all the heavy work on our 160 acre farm for a lot of years. The tractor still runs well but of course is retired now.

No 5W20....never 5W20.

Too thin no matter what the temp is.  Plus 5W20 only became a thing in the last several years and is formulated for modern engines with modern metallurgy and only for engines with tolerances and oil systems designed for it.

Neither. Use 10W-30 if you're going to use a multiviscious oil. I wouldn't use 15W-40 during the cold winter months either.
