Well I had no idea how long it has been since I check in here.
My D15 160 gas engine seized the main thrust bearing. I am really not sure just why it doesn't have a ton of hours on it since it was rebuilt. But last time it was rebuilt it didn't get a full overhaul kit my brother just replace what he felt it needed and replaced the bearings. It also has a new head.
Anyway I got it all appart and ordered an out of frame rebuilt kit plus a new crank the old one was damaged and already turned down the max last time.
I ordered an oil pump rebuild kit and the oil pressure and thrust springs along with the check ball and other parts under the cover at the front of the cam. My only thought at this point is that I had an oil flow problem. I ordered all the parts from Jensales, Inc. They served me well with the rebuilt kit for my gas 226 in my D17 a few years back. But here is the catch they sent me one of the two springs I ordered for the front of the cam and it is the same oil pressues spring that is in the pump rebuild kit. It is smaller and cone shaped not at all like the old spring that was in the motor. I have a photo of the old parts sitting on top of the bag with the new spring in it. The new spring is all the way to the right in the photo. Which spring is correct?

I'm no expert but have rebuilt a few of these and really don't think the spring on the right would be correct for this application. Also, I doubt that you need to replace the original ball and springs unless the ball has pitting for some reason. Oil pressure really comes from the cam bearings if your pump is good.
Just my thoughts but others on here know a lot more than I do.

Ok i have run into a bit of an issue with the engine kit.  The pistions and sleeves don't match my motor.  
here is some history on the tractor.  It was a D15 Series 1 industrial which was owned by a town the town blew the motor and i was told that the dealer swapped it out to a series 2 160 gas.  
The block on my tractor is stamped 3-1607-R 
the old sleeves measure 
bore 3.50" 
outside at the top lip 4.00"
the new sleeves i ordered for a 160 gas measure
bore 3.60"
outside at top of lip 4.04" 
old piston wrist pins are 13/16" 
the new piston wrist pins are 1"

I guess my question is do I have a 160 block or a older 149 block?  is there any chance someone had installed the 149 piston and sleeves in a 160 block?  i am not sure what parts i need to put this motor back together but i know my old connecting rods won't match the new pistons and I didn't try to measure the block to see if the new sleeves would fit it after i found out my connecting rods wouldn't fit the new pistons.  I hope someone can help sort out what I really have.

Roach thanks I was looking at the pump rebuild kit and it has a check ball that matches that new small spring but there isn't a ball and spring in my old pump that I can see to match it. I sort of got sidetracked with the sleeves not matching up right though. You are probably correct that I can use the old springs and check ball on the cam I just figured those parts where cheap enough I could replace them to be on the safe side.

3.500 bore is G149, you don't have a series 2 G160

Butch any idea what that casting number on the side of the block means? It is why someone in the past told me it was a 160 motor.

Somebody here might know what the casting numbers mean but I don't. 3.5 bore is G149, that I do know, also I know that a G160 will be stamped(not cast) so on a flat area that is more or less behind the carburetor, at least my series 2 D15 is.

The flat behind the carburetor is what I am looking at right now the first digit is hard to make out but it looks like it is stamped 3-1607-R
I know this motor has been taken apart several times before I got it my brother took two motors apart and rebuilt it so I am worried the old sleeves and pistons might not match the block. I just have no idea what I have at the moment.
Sorry I told you it was casting numbers they are definitely stamped into the flat.
Ok I was just looking at an old thread with some comment by Dr Allis I have a 149 motor the stamp on the flat doesn't work the way I thought it did. It is simply marking that the motor was swapped out at some point in the past but it is still the 149 the series 1 tractor should have had. Now I just need to return the kit.

Pictures are worth 1000 words at times, I can't explain what you are seeing on the block when I can't see it. However this you can take to the bank. G149 sleeves won't fit in a G160 and 160 sleeves dont fit in a 149. The sleeves you removed are the G149 3.5" bore, thus you do NOT have a G160 period OK? Maybe some crook stamped the block when he cobbed it into a series 2 tractor long before you owned it ? Would not be the first tine such shenanigans have been pulled.

Thanks Butch. Now that I know the block has to be a 149 I am all set. This tractor is definitely a hodgepodge of parts it has the industrial torque tube with the forward reverser and the rear end out of a ag with the 3 point hitch and pto. I just need to get the 149 parts so I can get it back together and in the field haying.

There are G-149's with the old bypass oiling system (D10-12-14's) and there are G-149's with the full-flow oiling system that use a PH-8A filter as used in ANY D-15 tractor.

I just did a little research on engine serial numbers from tractors actually tested at NEBRASKA TEST.    The series 2 D-15 gas engine was s/n 160-1056-R (this was a G-160 engine full-flow oiling)...……..Series 1 D-15 gas was 15-3032-R (this was a G-149 engine with full-flow oil)…….D-14 gas engine s/n 149-1481-B (this was a G-149 old oil filtering system)…...D-14 LPG eng s/n was 149-1033-T............D-12 S3 engine s/n was 12-1001-R  (again a G-149 with old oil filtering)… D-10 S3 engine 12-1002-R.

Well I finally have everything worked out with Jensales they agreed I can buy the correct 149 cylinders and they will accept the 160 cylinder kits back and refund me for the full 160 cylinders value. Can't complain about that. I should have all my parts to rebuild the 149 with the over bore cylinders in a few days ofcourse the 4th will slow things down a little but I will be glad to get that tractor back out in the fields haying.
Just wanted to put in a good word for Jensales I bought a kit for the 226 in my D17 a few years back from them and didn't have any issues this time they where willing to help sort out my mistake in ordering the wrong parts so I am happy.
