My very good friend that owns the tobacco farm next to ours gave me this old D17 for Christmas. When I was growing up if I had some down time from cotton, hay and beans my brother and I would help the family farm next to us (one of the largest tobacco farms in NC)...our families have been friends going on 90 years now.And so this is one of the tractors I’d use as a pond pumper for irrigation, although if they were behind I’d use it to plow with on occasion but for the most part it was water pumper. They’ve gone to Cat and New Holland tractors now so this 17 and 3 sets of bottom plows are all they had left and the old man gave me this 17 and all three plows for Christmas. It’ll now be in my hometown Founders Day parade in a couple of weeks.

Thanks y’all ,I really appreciate it.It was a love affair and brought back some memories for sure.
Chris, thanks for sure.My dad gets all the paint and primer from a supplier here right outside Ft Bragg.Thats the one thing I don’t have to deal with other than shooting it with the gun.The primer is DuPont I know but the paint he gets always comes to me to spray already mixed up in plain white labeled gallon cans.I will ask him though.

Hey,they’re 6.50 fronts and 18.4 rears and this was my idea to do which my dad wasn’t too keen on to begin with but after they were on it he was pretty excited. Two of my all time favorite AC tractors are the narrow front D17 & D19 with 18.4 rears. It just makes them look like they have nasty attitudes just sitting still.

Thankya sir and yes that was one thing my dad was hell bent on keeping right, the wheel color. I’m taking it was a standard Series lll because it didn’t even come with a tach which may explain the hard pan seat...but it’s got a all new gauges now.

Mike,
Thanks for the update on paint. I am going to the Sherwin Williams Industrial top coat paint for this tractor. Your paint jobs look awesome!
BTW those 18.4's really look right on that Nice D17 tractor too. Not sure I can run that size at our local pulls? Will keep those in mind if I ever get into my 17 project.
Regards,
 Chris

PS: Didnt your tag line have Daniel Boone in it?

Funny you ask...another neighbor down the road from us is a retired mechanic for our local UPS hub. He works from home now working on big tractors and trucks for farms close by.But he has a big diesel powered steam jet cleaner(can’t even think who it’s made by) but it’s powerful.Dad and I towed it down to his place and just blasted it down.
