I finally got my grandfather's WD running... the rings were dry seized from sitting in the garage for over 25 years untouched as well as the infamous crack in the block behind the carb due to freezing.
Now that I've gotten the tractor running I have a hydraulic leak coming from the discharge valve on the top right of the pump. The service manual mentions reseating a new ball if it's leaking... Now what would the chances be of locating a ball (#20) and gasket (#47) or is there a quick fix that you seasoned allis folks know of?
Any help is appreciated!

Call a supplier like Sandy Lake or others on this site. They probably have both. Great that you have a family tractor! You can never sell it!:) Regards, Chris |

The ball isn't your problem. There is an Oring under the hold valve that is leaking or it's leaking on the part of the hold valve that rotates, which is another oring. The reseating of the ball is inside the valve and that is if your hyd valve won't hold up a load.

Doc has it, without looking up the part, I think the gasket your talking about is just a simple o-ring. The fixture on top of the pump with the 3 lines hooked to it is called a Hold Valve.

The hold valve isn't leaking, it's leaking at the rear discharge plug on the pump. That's why I was asking about the ball and gasket. Not sure why I wrote valve...
I have to drive the tractor about 13 miles back to my grandfather's (now aunts) to pick up the implements ( cultivator, 2 bottom plow, potato planter and potato digger ) just need to clear all the brush from around them and what grew through some of them.
So if the ball isn't seated and its leaking at the plug, my chances of lifting the cultivators and keeping them up sounds slim without reseating a new ball.

There is no ball that can leak to the outside of the pump. If it's leaking from a plug, either the plug isn't tight or the housing is cracked.

Plug has a copper washer that seals it. Back it off and retighten it, MACK

I've tried to back off and re-tighten to no avail... Looks like the washer has been squashed a few too many times and will need to be replaced.
I find it odd how the id of the washer is so large to fit over the threads of the plug but the shaft of the plug is smaller where the washer is to seal... Wonder if I could find a newer style hydraulic washer with a smaller neoprene id that I can force past the threads and then seals to the shaft instead of relying on the copper washer to seal the plug to the top of the pump.
Or should I just search out the right id copper washer and not over think this?

Since the original copper washer worked for 60 years I'd just replace with the correct washer. A rubber washers forced over thes thread will probably last a while but you'll be doing it again in your lifetime.

If you need to get going right away. Copper washers will hardened over time, you can often get them to seal again by quenching them. Hang it on a wire, heat it up good with a propane torch, then dunk the hot washer in cold water. This will usually soften them up so they will seal again to get you going. Then you can track down a new one. I have done it many times with success.

Found a local as it gets agco dealer and can have one brought in 7-10 business days... Hopefully the weather holds out till then. Current washer has been re-tightened a few times previously and is gouged so it will need to be replaced. Been fun getting the family heirloom back in running condition.
