I know that will get eveyones Wink  attention!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I only really need the SMART, BUT CHEAP ones of you but anyway HELPCry. Advice from any of you could be helpful because most of you are smarter than me.

My old la...................loving wonderful wife is going to be driving different wheels or ELSE.
She will not drive car with check engine lite on. Now the old wagon has gone and died in traffic twice, and not set the check engine lite off. Restarted and drove away, but she ant going to drive it EVERY.

That was wednesday and had it towed and came home in a rental. An yesterday it sank in my thick head I was going car shopping. But no idea what we want till I agreed to go shopping women style(you will know it when you see it)(men shopping is know what you want and looking if price is cheaper somewhere else). I knew I had to climb in and not bang my head and knees(I don't bend like I use to).

Well i sat in a bunch of brands an most would be ok. But the most pushy salesmen, not a bad guy but a good for company salesmen tells me $3000 less today because of factory promotion. I don't know the car business, but do they really do things like that?

Oh well the Shameless stubborn part of me showed up and could not be pushed into a buy it NOW!!!! Long story made, short did that once and biggest piece of garbage we ever drove. Always more cars out there.

But the one point he had was the Jeep Cherokee line has a extended for as long as you keep it warranty. Of course you pay more, but I learned a long time ago let her pester the dealer not me.Anybody know how much is really covers, and how good will it be when Fiat kicks Mopar loss.

But I have kinda figured out it needs to be a SUV with 3rd row seating. Her childhood was spent with Mopar people so that is a point or 2 even  though I grew up with anything but Mopar.

So any run away from models or the best ever.

An maybe old Joe needs her old wagon a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica 4.0 liter with 140,000 and a rebuilt transmission somewhere after 100,000.WinkWinkWink A California car no salt.

Only thing I will say, is sometimes, going with factory financing sometimes gets you a grand off of the price.  I haven't bought new, since 1999, but had a friend buy a new F250, and he got the grand off then he made 3 payments, and paid it off...

And remember, the big print giveth, and the small print taketh away...Wink

Jordan's reply is too much work.  Black electrical tape, and the light problem is gone.  Might not fix the stalling part.

Unfortunately, I have never bought a new vehicle off a lot.  So I can't speak to the offers and the promotions.
The only thing that I have ever done (right or wrong) is when the salesman asks to talk numbers, I tell him if he can shake my hand lets do business.  If he has to get his boss to make the deal, then get out of my way.

Have not heard anything good about the newer Jeeps, I would say go with one of the larger Fords or Chevys and don't let the salesman push you into buying it on the first visit and like John says - don't put up with the salesman running back and forth to the boss. Get quotes from several different dealers and then pick the one you like best. End of the month is the best time to buy especially if they are still trying to make quota for that month. Wife has a 2012 Ford Escape and she loves it and it has enough room for my big rear end to fit comfortably.
Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God.

My daughter and her mother-in law both have Escapes, they like them. I've drove
my daughters a couple of times 1800+ miles and found it fun to drive.

Don't think you can get a Jeep with three rows? I have a 2012 Dodge Durango, that has three row seating, bought extended warranty from Chrysler, haven't had to use it so will see when the time comes. I wanted a Chev or Ford large suv but were about 12,000 dollars more. Mine was 2 years old when I got it, 32000 miles, now has 103000 miles

Sister inlaw just bought a little chevy car for husband to run to work, they brought it over and it wasn't too bad getting in and out, they had a good price on it and she used all the GM points she could. When it came to signing the papers the salesman really pushed extended warranty, she said no salesman got a little crabby. she got the car without the extended warranty. I think I would have told the salesman not today and walked out.

Oh I walked out on this one and will probly walk out on more.

My wife has her trust issues with a car that quits on her.

Had Chevy about 79 before the computer you plug into like now. That dam thing never stayed dead for a mechanic to work on. Generally put it in neutral and start up and away you go,but several times dead for hours but tow it to mechanic away it went.

Had a Dodge minivan that had a transmission and valve job. Had the oil changed in town as she wants it the day it gets to the mileage, gas station that to this day still does smog check and oil changes left a rag on top of engine.  Drove 20 miles stopped for mail in front of house, and rag started burning. Had a extinguisher at the back door and a kid that new how to use it. She never drove that van again and had recites from a few weeks before and got a lot more money from insurance.
She pays attention to gages and hears more than me I believe in her getting extended warranty. She can fight with someone other than Winkme. So yes till it quits if that light was disconnected Confused ,how did that happen.

Since a Jeep is up the list and yes some have 3rd row seats. Any good or bad I would like to know. Was surprised to learn the Cherokee is rear wheel drive.

When she talked at one place I sat in a Ford Flex and that was the easiest for me to get in and out of but was a 3 or 4 years old. She thought the Flex was lower to the ground so not as good out on are back roads, have to look closer. So will have to visit Ford and see what they have.

The hunt continues tomorrow.

when I bought our first Suburban (1987) it was used, but a tough ole bird! (oh..and it's a diesel) bought it at 83,000 miles. not one ounce of any problems until it hit 403,000 miles and that's when a crank broke in the engine. bought our next Suburban (2003) with around 80,000 some thousand miles on it, and got a lifetime warranty when we bought it. we've never had to use the warranty, it's got over 200,000 miles on it now, and the old lady.....oooops….I mean the loving wife just bought another Suburban (2011) with just over 100,000 miles on it. we still have the other 2 burbs, I put another diesel (military) engine in the '87, the '03 is still going strong but the body is starting to rust on the rear quarters. she came from a family that if there was rust on a vehicle, you stopped driving it! PffffT! all but the '87 has 3rd row seating, have never used the 3rd row seats. as soon as I can find a place that the mice won't chew up the seats, i'll remove the third row seats in both of them. then they will be like a 4 door pickup with a permanent topper on it. better for hauling anything! my '87 got around 27 MPG, both the '03 and the '11 are getting in the area of 21 MPH highway. she told me several times she won't be without a Suburban. she went thru 2 conversion vans before, a Chevy and a GMC. both full size, both about the same MPG. she likes having the 4x4 now for just in case!

I drive a Ford Fusion and my wife has a Ford Escape, the Escape is nice I like to drive it and it is a lot easier to get in and out of than my car. When we bought you could buy extended warranty and Ford also gave free or 0% interest for 6 years plus it is end of the year sales time.

I had always heard that Jeeps were pretty far down on the list for reliability but maybe they are better today than in the past.  Won't make much difference if you will always have it under warranty.

Won't ever buy another Buick.  The Lucerne was supposed to be like the Park Ave.  HAH, what a joke.  I loved the Park Ave, but no I won't ever touch another Buick again!!

Well 40 years too late to go down that roadWink.

Doctor would.......well more the hospital people that got to do real work probably would of left me to dieDead if she had not showed up everyday back in summer of 16. Spending 13 days for gallbladder surgery you no I was not in shapeConfused to protest that first week.

Talked with several mechanics saying Toyota and Honda so have to look at them. The one says as a GM/Chevy guy forever it hurtsEmbarrassed to say that but the Japanese brands are the most trouble free from a mechanical standpoint.

I don't imagine many of you old farts go out giving opinions at the online sites, just snowflakesAngry. Cause I find it all worthless,I don't worry about my phone not working with car bluetooth or backup camera not working. I want the car to get from A to B and not break out in the middle of nowhere,or the yard for that matter. But most reasons to slam a brand is funny to me. I also don't think I need my butt cooled or even the heated steering wheel, but since somebody was testing turbosWink on "The Machine" the other day maybe I do.

But the way my luck runs I could get the only lemon they make all year so........................I  am still looking.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra, 09 Subaru Forester, and a 16 Toyota RAV4.  We sold a Honda civic when we go the new Toy.  I researched and priced all of the different Japanese and Korean models of what she wanted.  We went to every dealer to check out what we were looking for.  It came down to the Toy.  The Nissan Rogue came in 2nd.  Everyone else was too much for her requirements or couldn't get it with them.  Mainly she had to have heated seats and remote start, but I wanted the middle model with AWD.  Most everyone did not offer and could not install those items in the model I wanted.  Three row seating might require a minivan!

Well the deal is done.Big smile   A almost new Toyota Highlander. Way more bells and whistles than anybody needs, but not near all you can get.

To many local people tell me they are longest lasting cars out there. The boss is Thumbs Up paying extra for a Toyota warranty on the electrical/computer stuff( woo hoo if anything blinks or buzzes she can bug them). So for the next 7 yearsThumbs Up all  is good,as long as cows have twinsWink so I can pay my part.

She even let me drive it to town this morning. Well we both had a visit with the eye doctor,so she always wants me to drive.

I don't have the seat just right cause it is not all push button like the old one,but not bad. I will keep moving it to find what I like best.

LOL Not like the old Chevy pickup of like it or lump it.
